Millard Eugene Slaten " Pops", 80, died Friday, March 2, 2012 at Bayshore Hospital in Pasadena. He was born July 13, 1931 to James Samuel and Bradie Slaten in Houston.
He leaves his wife of 36 years, Barbara (Smith) Slaten; his brother Charles and wife Joyce Slaten, his sister Mary Penny, his sons, Carl and wife, Susan Slaten; Ralph Oates; Robert Oates, his daughters, Polly and husband Charles O'neal, Peggy and husband Randy McGraw, Nancy and husband Philip Hazen, Sandy and husband Carl Wells, Patty and husband Billy Brooks, 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents James Samuel and Bradi Slaten, brothers Jimmy and Tommy Slaten and daughter Mary Oates.
In 1952, he was drafted in the U.S. Army. Where he served as Staff Sargent, and received the Infantry Combat Medal while fighting during the Korean War. After serving with the U.S. Army, Gene was employed with several different companies. He retired from Rohm and Haas in 1992 as an Instrument Technician. Gene and his wife began traveling after retirement and ended up spending 7 years at Matagorda Bay before having to return home to take care of parents.
A memorial service was held March 6, 2012 at Rosewood Funeral Home in Pasadena, TX at 2:00 pm. The family has requested in lieu of usual remembrances that donations be sent to Pasadena Special Olympics, 2528 Sinclair, Pasadena TX 77503.

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of Gene. We worked together for many years at Rohm and Haas. He was one of the good guys.....my deepest sympathy to his family...

Sorry to hear of the lost of Mr. Slaten. The Bible tells us “Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you.” (James 4:8). One of the principal ways to draw close to God is thorough prayer. Do not underestimate its value!
