Robert P. Wilson left this world on February 1, 2022. He had recently turned 91 years old.
Robert was born in his family farm home in Everittstown, New Jersey. This was the same home that his father was born in. The house was built in 1840. Robert and his 3 siblings were raised there and he often visited his farm home. Many celebrations were spent there with family.
Robert graduated from Frenchtown High School in Frenchtown, New Jersey in 1948. He later attended Churchman Business College in Easton, Pennsylvania. From there Robert joined the US Navy and served in the Korean War. He met his future wife, Paula, in Corpus Christi, Texas. After his military service, Robert attended the University of Texas and graduated in 1957 with an Electrical Engineering degree.
Robert moved his family to Reading, Pennsylvania, and began his Engineering career with Western Electric Company. He moved his family back to Texas in 1966 where he worked for the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) in Houston. He was active in supporting the Apollo moon landing mission, Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs. He was transferred to NASA Headquarters in Washington DC in 1987 and retired in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1997. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 1417 in Clear City, Texas.
Robert was an avid tennis player and loved traveling the world. He was able to see the Great Wall of China, Machu Pichu, the Serengeti wilderness, Egyptian pyramids and much more. Each year he traveled to different locations for annual Wilson reunions.
Robert is survived by his wife Paula Wilson of 68 years, two sons: Richard Wilson (Jenny) and Larry Wilson (Angela), and daughter in law: Ginger Wilson; seven grandchildren: Samuel, Jeremy and Olivia Wilson, Francesca and Geneva Wilson, Tyler and Taylor Wilson, sister: Esther Merrell. He was preceded in death by his son Robert Wilson (Ginger), his brother Harold and sister Catherine.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 11 AM to 12 PM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ. Funeral services will follow at 12 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Linda Bullock officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Alexandria Township, NJ.
