He was named by the Junior Chamber of Commerce as "Pasadena Citizen of the Year".

The health and physical education building on the South Campus of San Jacinto College is named in his honor.

Levi is preceded in death by his beloved wife Clarice of 64 years, in 2003 and his son, Michael Maness Smallwood in 1984. He is survived by son Andy Smallwood and his wife Anita, and by daughter-in-law Phyllis Smallwood. Levi is further survived by grandson, Bryan Smallwood and granddaughters, Kathrynn and Baylee Smallwood.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the family would encourage donations in Mr. Smallwood's name to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, the San Jacinto College Education Foundation or First Methodist Church of Pasadena Building Fund.

The passing of Levi Smallwood is a loss for us all. I hope this healing prayer helps your broken hearts as memories hold you up. "May the source of strength who blessed the ones before us - help us find the courage, to make our lives a blessing as did the one who has departed."

Levi held himself to the highest standard of excellence. He loved his family, his church, his community and his country. A premier example of leadership, determination and loyalty, he took a hard line in matters of truth and gave a soft touch in matters of the heart. He loved fiecely, encouraged always and promoted the best qualities in those he met and loved. So sadly is he missed.

I had the opportunity to visit with Levi during Grandma Lorene's (Phillips) 70th birthday and again at Grandma's services. I enjoyed that time reminiscing about Pasadena and the fire dept.,and hearing about his life. We had even exchanged emails for a time. Deepest Sympathies to your family. All of the Phillips family greatly admired Levi. He was s great friend and neighbor. We also felt a special connection through the fire department and the Methodist church. I can still picture Levi and Uncle Sparky in their football referee uniforms on Frday evenings. Our deepest sympathy to Andy, Anita and family.
