CONRAD KLEMZAK Obituary

CONRAD KLEMZAK
Nov. 4, 1957 - July 31, 2012

Our brother, Conrad Klemzak, came into the word in 1957, the same year the Soviet sputnik was launched. While Conrad didnt travel with the same speed as the sputnik he covered quiet alot of ground in his life. He routinely traveled between Southern California where he relaxed in the winter months and in Alaska during the remainder of the year where he worked as a gold miner and commercial fisherman. He was a good hand on deck and even better at shoveling gold laden sand into a home made sluice box.

Conrad was a quiet, creative soul and happiest when he was in a workshop surrounded by his tools that he used to fashion gold, ivory, wood and stone into jewelry and various objects. He was a bit of a loner and would often disappear into San Gabriel mountains behind Altadena where he hiked and camped, far from the clamor of the city below. Conrad loved science and hare-brained inventions, and he could repair almost any sort of mechanical contraption.

Conrad passed away at Harbor View Hospital in Seattle in July July 31 after a devastating fire in his home in Nome, Alaksa. He is survived by his siblings, Jeff Klemzak, John Klemzak and Cleo Brylinsky and numerous friends. We all loved him

Conrad was one of my brother“s best friends growing up. It seems he and Sam were always in and out of our house. I remember him quite fondly. I especially remember his laugh.

Jeff talked about his brother all the time. It was if I knew him, also. Jeff and I coached LL baseball in Pasadena, Ca and he would always ask me when the season started and ended so he could go to Alaska with his brother. He will be truly missed.

So very saddened to know of Conrad's passing. I, too, knew Conrad from Altadena Elementary. I remember him as being sweet and funny. I wish I had known him better.

I knew Conrad in Altadena Elementary School. We were in the same class for probably five or six years running. My mother told me of how he was the only boy I wanted to attend my birthday party in first grade because he was well-behaved. I remember him with great fondness. I am sorry for your loss.

I hung out with Conrad in eighth grade, when he lived across the street from Eliot Jr. High. He was quirky-funny and taught me how to draw R. Crumb style. We put a fake dog too on his sandwich when he was in the bathroom, he came out and said "who put that sandwich under my turd?" I liked him a lot. JG

So sorry to hear this news. Conrad was the coolest friend my brother Taylor Yewell had in Altadena. Taylor and I are both very saddened by this news. May your beautiful spirit rest in peace, dear Conrad.

I shared the better part of my earliest adult years hanging out with Conrad. We had great fun touring through San Marino on our Vespa scooters loaded down with Ranier's Ale. I truly believe the absurdity of life was somehow channeled through him. He was a character and you enjoyed every minute in his presence. I don't think in all the years I knew him, I ever saw him angry.

Sorry to hear of Conrad's passing. I knew him in the late 70's in Pasadena. I remember how he was great at fixing things and playing 12 string guitar. We used to drive around in his old Vauxhall. So sorry for your loss.
