Marangi, Michael Frank
On the morning of Monday, September 22, 2014, Michael Frank Marangi passed away at Methodist Hospital in Arcadia, California. He was 85 years old.
Michael was born in Los Angeles, California on February 13,1929. He was the second child, and the first son, of Frank Marangi and Mary Lillo.
Michael grew up in Alhambra, California. He had fond memories of the fun and many adventures he shared with his younger twin brothers, Angelo and Jack, and older sister, Kay. He attended All Souls Catholic Grammar School and Alhambra High School.
Michael proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1950 until 1952 and was a veteran of the Korean War.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Michael went to work for Pacific Bell where he retired after 35 years. Michael could not sit still during retirement and took a job as the Hospitality Host in the Director's Room at Santa Anita Racetrack where he spent 15 years and was loved by all.
On July 25, 1954, Michael married his beloved wife, Joanne. This past July Michael and Joanne celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. In 1956, Michael proudly became a father when his daughter Tina Marie was born. Michael happily welcomed a son, Frank Michael in 1958. He often said that having children was when his life truly began. He was a loving father and took great pride in his family.
Michael was an avid sports fan, coached his son, Frank's little league baseball teams and volunteered numerous hours to support the San Gabriel Mission High School Parent's Club where his daughter Tina attended.
Michael loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Michael was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather and friend. He will be missed so very much!
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Marangi, and his sister, Carmen "Kay" Kennebeck.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joanne, brothers Angelo and Jack Marangi, children Tina and Douglas Herford and Frank and Christine Marangi, grandchildren Jennifer Awrey Weatherman and Joshua Weatherman, Michael Marangi, Julianne Awrey and Anthony Carden, Joseph Marangi, Hailey Marangi, and Kelsey Marangi, and great-grandchildren William Weatherman, Elizabeth Awrey-Carden, and Anna Weatherman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Michael's name to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
