Paul Stuart Obituary
STUART-Paul Anthony Stuart, a long time resident (and Mayor Emeritus) of Monrovia, passed away November 9, 2007 at the age of 92. Paul lived a beautiful, colorful life filled with many different careers. He was a singer, actor, WWII Vet, real estate broker, teacher, community and club leader, councilman/mayor, but most of all, treasured husband, father, grandfather and friend. Paul was born June 19, 1915 in Newark, New Jersey. After graduating from teacher's college in New York , Paul served in the Army during WWII, and received 3 bronze stars for his participation in the battles of Normandy's Omaha Beach (D-Day), Northern France and the Rhineland. He then went on to study French and German at the University in Paris and vocal music at the Paris Conservatoire. Having found an affinity for France, Paul stayed in Paris for two years following the war, broadcasting his own radio show. Paul then brought his training home to the US, to share in numerous radio, theater, and community experiences. Paul became a licensed real estate agent in 1953 and later a senior partner at Stuart-Marquis & Devine Realtors in Monrovia until he retired in 1977. He was elected to the Monrovia City Counsel in 1976, and then went on to serve 4 consecutive terms as Mayor and Chairman of the Monrovia Redevelopment Agency. Paul was also extremely active in community clubs and organizations; serving as Director of the LA County Sanitation District, the American Red Cross, and the Santa Anita Family Services; as well as President of the Kiwanis Club of Monrovia and the Monrovia Board of Realtors. During his retirement, Paul enjoyed traveling t he world with his beloved wife, Elizabeth, to places like China, Russia, India, Scotland, and many other countries. In addition to his love of travel, Paul was an avid golfer and an amateur pool shark. He was a scholar of wit and humor, and his gregarious, outgoing personality will be sorely missed. Paul is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth; their daughters, Micaela Loungway & Diana Tayer; grandchildren, Iris, Stuart, Malcolm & Justin, and his great grandchildren, Alexander, Giselle & Nicholas.
