On October 15, 2017, Paul Anthony Ortega Jr. passed into the hands of the Lord surrounded by family while hundreds of his friends were gathered in prayer. Paul was born on March 1, 2003 in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended Juan Diego Catholic High School where he was known and loved by many. From the time he could walk and talk on his own, he was getting to know people. He had a way with people; everyone loved him as soon as they met him. He was always open, friendly and cheerful, bringing many people an abundance of joy. Most of his time was spent doing something, whether it was on the football field, making music on the guitar, piano or cajon, singing or acting on a stage, he made sure that he stayed involved in the world around him. He was an avid Boy Scout and outdoorsman.
Paul is survived by his mother, Virginia Ortega; father, Paul Ortega; sister, Rosalie; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his grandparents. He was loved very dearly by everyone he met, and will be missed.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 300 East 11800 South, Draper, UT with a vigil beginning at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Salt Lake City, UT. Arrangements entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.starksfuneral.com

He was such a great friend. I feel as if I have lost a part of me. I will never forget Paul as the person who accepted me with open arms when I came as a new students. I will miss his smile and his jokes.

No words can express how we feel for the Ortega Family. We share your loss because we also lost a child too. We currently have a daughter that is also a freshman at Juan Diego and joined us for the Rosary on Sunday. All we could think of is the grief you must be experiencing at this moment. Having experienced the loss of a child, we know that no words we can offer can sooth your pain. Just know that, you are in our thoughts and prayers. This is a loss you will never recover from but will merely learn to endure. May God bless you all.

Just 3 years ago before he moved to Utah I promised him that I will see him again someday. Paul was a dear friend to me. He might have never mentioned me, but he was there for me and I tried my best to be there for him. I hope that the Lord will take special care for him and tell him that his friends and family loves him.

Paul was such an amazing boy. I was never very close with him, only speaking to him occasionally in the halls at school or before a theater performance, but he brought me happiness. Paul was so loved by everyone he met, and I pray he knows how loved he was and still is. In the hands of God Paul resides, I'm sure of it. Praying for your family, Paul, and everyone affected by this great loss.
