Mr. Anthony Lawrence McCants II was born on January 20 th , 1986 in Florence, South Carolina to Anthony Lawrence McCants and Gloria Sanders McCants. He is the older brother of Alyssa McCants Scott. He transitioned to eternal rest on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
Anthony attended Cumberland United Methodist Church (Florence, SC), Mount Ephraim Baptist Church (Florence, SC), where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and later, New Covenant Assembly in Christ Jesus (Darlington, SC).
Anthony began his sports career playing little league baseball through the Florence County Recreational program, but he discovered his true love for basketball later in elementary school. Anthony attended South Florence High School, where he was lovingly known as "Big Amp" or "6'9" by all his classmates, teachers, coaches and teammates. He was the center of the
varsity basketball team, where he proudly wore the number "32" across his back and held various records. He graduated high school May 21 st , 2004, and was offered the chance to play basketball for a few weeks overseas in Brazil, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
After graduating, he took his talents to Orangeburg, SC, where he attended Claflin University and played basketball, this time wearing the number "42". After two years, Anthony decided to make a change and transferred to Francis Marion University, where he continued his passion for basketball while wearing his old number "32". It was at this point that he decided to take a step back from playing basketball to focus on his studies. He graduated from Francis Marion University on December 19 th , 2009, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology.
Shortly after graduating, Anthony moved to Greenville, SC, where he was finally able to begin his adult life. He had many different jobs with several different companies, but his final stop was with Amtrak, where he worked as an assistant conductor. With every position that Anthony had, he gave his very best, which always made him one of the very best employees
wherever he worked. Anthony's biggest passion was helping others of all ages, but the youth had a very special place in his heart. Whether he was coaching or mentoring, he made it his business to help as many people as possible.
