Karl Dargan Obituary

Karl Dargan, aged 84, passed away peacefully after a long illness on April 29, 2024. He was born in Darlington County, SC and spent most of his life in Bishopville, SC.

Karl was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had a long and successful career in textiles, many years of which were at Reeves Brothers in Bishopville. He could always be counted on to help a friend or family member.

After retiring, Karl delighted in staying fit and socializing at the McLeod Fitness Center, followed by happy hour with friends. He never missed an opportunity to laugh or make a joke, especially a practical joke on good friends. He also loved to garden and for many years grew giant crops of tomatoes and okra. His precisely manicured rye grass was the envy of the neighborhood and he was proud to have won Bishopville Garden Club's Yard of the Month award more than once.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Jones Dargan; son, Karl Frederick (Fred) Dargan; and brother, Frederick Mishoe "Freddy" Dargan . He is survived by his daughter, Ann Elizabeth "Lil" Surprenant (Jason); grandchildren Archer McDonald and Sage McDonald; siblings: Blanche Dargan Horton (Richard), Walter Dargan (Anita), and Hugh Dargan (Mary Palmer); many beloved nephews, nieces and cousins.

At this time, no services are planned.. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to McLeod Hospice.
