Stuart Schneider Obituary

Stuart Schneider, 85, passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015 at Providence Portland Medical Center. The incorrigible joker, charming gentleman and devoted husband died peacefully with his wife Arlene by his side.
Stuart was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on July 31, 1930 to Frederick and Ethel Schneider. He is survived by his wife, his children Stuart Schneider, Phil Schneider, Myrna Choat, Vicki Routon, Sandy MacDuffee and Robert Hartling, and loving grandchildren and friends.
Stuart's adventurous life began on a small farm in Alberta. In his early years, he hopped freight trains, worked steamships and was once perilously bucked from a steam-donkeyed logging skidder. He worked in an astonishing variety of jobs including steamboat steward, logger, prison guard and psychiatric male nurse. He was working as a salesman in Portland, Oregon in 1972 when he married the love of his life, Arlene Schneider. The two raised their children together in Portland, then moved to Kenai where they lived for six years before returning to Portland to start their own business, Star Industrial Supply, Inc. (named after the first two letters of their first names).
Stuart was a member of the Elks and served as an officer with the Loyal Order of Moose in the Kenai and Portland lodges.
Stuart will be remembered for his bad jokes, his good humor, his generosity and for the unwavering love and support he gave to all of his friends and family. Stuart had a special talent for bringing a smile to the face of every single person he met. His charm and compassion will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will take place at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery near Mt. Scott in Portland, Oregon at 12:30pm on Sunday, September 13, to be followed by a Celebration of Life at the Loyal Order of Moose East Portland on NE Halsey at 2 p.m.
