Timothy Moore Obituary

Timothy J. Moore, age 65, of Homer, AK passed peacefully from this world into the loving arms of Jesus, the Great Fisher of Men on December 2, 2021. Tim fought AML with the same courage, strength, passion, faith and grace that he lived his life. Tim was a dedicated and loving husband, a devoted father to his children, a wonderful grandpa to his 10 grandchildren and a loyal friend. We will forever carry him close in our hearts!

After his family, Tim enjoyed hunting and sport fishing, but commercial fishing was his passion. Born January 27, 1956, in Denver and raised in Colorado, his first fishing experience was set netting for salmon on his Uncle Pat McElroy's sites as a skinny 13-year-old during a summer visit to Alaska in 1967. In 1984 Tim moved from Colorado to Alaska with his two daughters from a previous marriage and started set netting as a family in Kasilof. 1986 was an eventful year when he married his wife, Peggy, and brought her two children into the family. He also went into partnership with his longtime friend, Gregg Bosick on his first boat, the F/V Dutch Maid, and began herring seining in Prince William Sound and Cook Inlet. In 1991 the acquisition of the F/V Iliamna Bay allowed him to expand his herring fisheries to include Togiak and to participate in the halibut fishery during those crazy "derby" days before IFQ's. The F/V Iliamna Bay was also the beginning of his Prince William Sound (PWS) salmon seining career where he made many memories fishing with the family and some amazing crew. In 2003 Tim moved from Kasilof to Homer and acquired the F/V Marandah which he fished until his illness forced him into retirement after the 2020 season. Tim absolutely loved to catch fish and was well known for always exploring new places (rock piles) to set his net! He never lost his wonder at the beauty and adventure of fishing and life in Alaska.

Tim was a leader who served with integrity and tenacity as a defender of fishery resources. He served on the Kenai Peninsula Fishermen's Association board in the 1980's and, as the Homer Alyeska/SERVS fishermen's representative, Tim was an effective advocate for those participating in oil spill response activities. He also served on the Prince William Sound Aquaculture Corporation (PWSAC) board from 2004 through October 2021 and was the Chairman of that board from 2015 to 2020. In addition, Tim served several years as a United Fishermen of Alaska (UFA) representative and was recently inducted into the UFA hall of fame for his lifetime of fishing accomplishments and dedication as a fishermen's advocate.

On a more personal level, Tim was an excellent listener as well as an incredible mentor and friend to his children, crew members and fellow fishermen/women. He made friends easily, was always ready to help anyone in need and could fix just about anything. Tim left an indelible mark on the hearts and lives of his family, friends, and acquaintances. His light will live on in the stories and remembrances we share with one another in the years to come!

Tim is survived by his wife, Peggy, children; Kimberly Bowser (and Matthew) of Kasilof AK, Bryan Duncan (and Nicole) of Soldotna AK, Kristen Edwards (and Bridger) of Meridian, ID and Hillary Seger (and Carl) of Ashland, OR, grandchildren Brehnden, Miriam, Ethan, Myla, Apphia, Brielle, Fritz, Esther, Nora and Finn, his sister Kathleen Sue Perez of North Platte, NE his Uncle and Aunt, Pat & MaryJo McElroy, as well as two nieces, a nephew and numerous cousins in Alaska and the lower 48. Tim is preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Dorothy Moore and his brother Harvey Moore Jr.

The dates for a celebration of life and a spring 2022 fishermen's tribute and farewell in Kachemak Bay are yet to be determined.

It is doubtful that you will find many men as kind, patient and compassionate as Tim Moore. I was given the same opportunity as a scrawny kid from Oregon to fish the McElroy sites in the late 80's. The entire Moore family couldn't have been more welcoming. Tim always took time to make sure I understood what was going on and never missed a beat making sure everyone was safe even during one of those crazy halibut openers when I was sure I was going to die. I have always been thankful for the opportunity Tim and his family gave me. My time spent on that Kasilof beach and on Tim's boat are some of my fondest from my early days in Alaska. My sincere condolences to Peggy and the family. Our thoughts are with you during this incredibly difficult time.

Tim Moore was an icon of stability. Tim and Peggy worked hard together building their fishing business and raising a family. I met Tim when he was 13 in Kasilof, a great man is Uncle Pat McElroy introduced me to him. Tim You were a great and honest person here on Earth. I thank you with a honest and heart felt love for the way you provided, cared and loved my own children Bryan and Kristen. Tim, now that you are in the presence and glory of God you are safe and know that life has only just really began. Peggy, I wish you the strength to build everlasting hope to survive and do well building towards the day when you will be joined in heaven. Thank You Tim,Thank You Peggy

So sorry to hear of your loss. Tim was a great neighbor back in the 80's and an all around nice guy. Haven't seen Tim or Peggy much in recent years but it was always a pleasure to run into them.
