William Twohy Obituary

William (Bill) Joseph Twohy, 48, died of colon cancer in Mesa, Arizona on February 21,2012. He was surrounded by love. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle and he leaves behind many friends in Alaska, Minnesota and Idaho.

Bill was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 26, 1963. He lived life by helping others and showed his love through generosity and devotion to family, friends, church, work, and community, always putting them before himself.

Bill's talents were boundless and if he discovered a new interest he pursued it with passion. He was a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse Anesthetist, a talented craftsman, a private pilot, an aspiring bass player, a habitual punster and an avid hiker, biker, skier, hunter and fisherman. He was proud of his Catholic faith and took great comfort in it. Bill lived life to the fullest and left the world a better place.

He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Twohy. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Spotts, son Sean (Jessica), daughter Erin, granddaughters Veronica and Emily, mother Shirley, brothers Brian (Sonia), Pat (Beth), Mark (Reyna), Tim (Sue), Paul, Dave (Loni), Matt (Tuesday), and Steve (Leah), sisters Jeanne (Mike) Mariani, Michelle (Greg) Gabriel and Diane (Hugh) Garske, "other brother Dave" Klein and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral mass will be held in the spring at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Soldotna, Alaska, to be followed by Bill's Ultimate Party. The family thanks the many health care providers who were involved in Bill's care in Alaska and Arizona. Special thanks to Hospice of the Valley in Mesa. Donations may be made to them (in lieu of flowers) at www.hov.org.

CONDOLENCES TO BILL'S FAMILY,THE BIBLE SAYS"YOU ARE OPENING YOUR HAND AND SATISYING THE DESIRE OF EVERY LIVING THING

March 5, 2012

Sorry to here about Bill's passing. I once read a passage that seems appropriate for this time. It goes
Why? That's what we ask.
The truth, is we may never be able to know why.
But we do know that there is no single
"Should have done" or "Could have done" or "Did" or "Didn't Do" that would have changed that "Why". All that love could do was done. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the Twohy family during this difficult time. Nancy(Ehlenz)Laub Allenspark, Colorado

It was such a pleasure to see Billy and all the Twohy's last year on your visit to the North Shore. We had so much fun getting updated on each others lives and familys. I remember how fondly Bill talked about his kids and flying. Of course I wish we would have had more time to visit. You are all in our thoughts during this difficult time.

God bless - Carl and Jenn Ehlenz

Mary Jo and Family Twohy, Really sad to hear this news today! Bill was such a funny guy! Although I had not
had the pleasure to see him for over 20 years it seems like yesterday the last time I did. He left a lasting impression I'm sure on all that he met! God bless your family in this time of sorrow!

Mary Jo and family, It was my honor to have worked with Bill in surgery. I considered him a friend and he was one of the most gifted and empathetic nurse anesthetists I've ever known. The way he comforted children as he gave them anesthesia was unique and sweet, as if each child were his own. He had a great sense of humor and was empathetic to everyone he came in contact with. When I "coincidentally" ran into Bill on my way to my first cancer appointments the tips he gave me during that short flight to Anchorage made my decisions easier and gave me solace. I will most remember his tremendous humor and suspect he will continue to find ways to express it to his family, as he will always be with you. God bless you and your family.

My heart aches for you, Mary Jo, Sean, Erin, Shirley, and all of the family. It was an honor to get to spend time with you guys up in Alaska almost two years ago now, and a delight getting to know Bill better. He and I talked about death a little bit, and some of the fears associated with it. Like me, he wanted to keep living. How it is that some of us survive cancer longer than others is a mystery I hope can be solved someday.

You are in my heart, thoughts and prayers.

Love and hugs forever,

Joanne

Sean and Erin, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. Your father was a wonderful man, what little I knew him - he had an amazing positive spirit. My heart hurts for you and your family. You will all be in my prayers. May you find God's peace.

Shirley and all the Twohys... Our most sincere sympathy and love
to all of you. What a great guy Bill was and he was a great little
guy too. We have so many good memories of him with our kids
when they were growing up. I will treasure his phone call to us
on 2/16/12 how thoughtful of him. May God give Bill eternal joy
in heaven and peace of mind to his loved ones knowing this.
Go with God Bill and no more pain.
