C. Englund Obituary
Carl Roy Englund and his wife of 63 years, Marjory Mae (Williams) Englund, passed away four months apart.
Roy was born March 27, 1931, and passed away April 30, 2015.
Marge was born July 12, 1933, and passed away September 4, 2015.
They resided in Sequim.
Roy's parents, Werner and Bertha Englund, had emigrated from Sweden in 1925 to Hoquiam, Washington. The family moved to Port Angeles in 1941, and Roy graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1949.
Marge was born in Port Angeles to parents Wayne and Elva Williams on July 12, 1933. She graduated from Port Angeles High in 1951.
Roy and Marge wed on November 17, 1951, in Port Angeles. Shortly thereafter, Roy enlisted in the Coast Guard and was stationed near Grayland, Washington.
The couple had three daughters: Joy and Diana (Don) McCammant of Sequim, and Karen Englund of Port Angeles.
In his younger days, Roy was an avid fisherman and hunter. He and Marge belonged to a dance club, bowled in several leagues and enjoyed camping together.
Marge loved to play all sorts of games, and they spent many nights playing a game of cribbage. Both of them won the Englund/Logan family cribbage tournament.
After Roy's military service, the couple returned to Port Angeles. He began work at the Peninsula Plywood mill, where his father and brother Harold were employed. Roy worked on the log booms on Ediz Hook.
He retired from the mill in 1981 after suffering a heart attack.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents and brother. Marge was preceded in death by her parents and sister Betty Fountain. She is survived by her sister Mildred Seat.
Both are survived by many nieces and nephews.
Their daughter, Joy, passed away in 1957 at the age of 4. Because of Joy and Karen's developmental disabilities, Marge became a driving force both locally and statewide in advocacy for education needed for children with mental deficiencies. It was her desire and passion to see every child had a place in a school.
Together, they owned three apartment complexes in Port Angeles, which Marge managed and where Roy maintained the buildings.
Many priceless family memories came from decades of summers at Lake Crescent. Roy and Harold purchased lakefront property in 1959. Together, they built cabins, docks and boats for family and friends to enjoy.
There will be a celebration of life for the couple at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Sequim Community Church, 950 North Fifth Avenue. They will be interred at Mount Angeles Memorial Park.
Roy, Marjory and their family were blessed with the care and dedication of Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County.
Donations can be made to the organization in their memory at 540 East Eighth Street, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
