Janet Poths Obituary
Janet was born in Port Angeles to Herman 'Dutch' and Patricia Schaefer. A lifelong Port Angeles resident, she graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1963 and soon after married Robert Bunch. They were blessed with their son, Robert.
Although the marriage ended in divorce, Jan always believed Bobby was the best thing she had ever done in her life. She was not afraid of hard work and, at times, held 3 jobs as a single mom. She had fond memories of the years she spent working in the office at ITT Rayonier. During that time she met successful businessman Helmut Poths. They married in 1978 and owned and operated the popular buffet restaurant, Roy's Chuck Wagon. After that, they ventured into 'The Greenery' restaurant in downtown Port Angeles for several more years before retiring from the business.
During their marriage they enjoyed taking many trips to Germany and the surrounding areas to visit Hal's extended family. Mom was always very involved working in the restaurants and busy managing the rental units they owned. She was a woman of great strength, generosity, and kindness. There was no one she wouldn't help if she could and she genuinely cared about the people in her life.
Mom didn't know a stranger. She dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and treasured her time with them.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years Helmut Poths, her son Bob Bunch (Carrie) of Port Angeles, stepson Stuart Poths of Battle Ground, WA, stepdaughters Monica Klennert (Aaron) of Coeur d'Alene, ID, and Eleanor Poths of Vancouver, brothers Gerald Schaefer (Nola) of Aberdeen and Jim Schaefer, who followed her in death nine days later, and six grandchildren.
Graveside service and inurnment will be held on January 19, 2022 at 1pm at Mt. Angeles Memorial Park, 45 S. Monroe Road, Port Angeles.
Those wishing to make donations in Janet's memory may send them to Hospice or Peninsula Friends of Animals.
