Elizabeth Stump Obituary

Elizabeth Louise

(Hack) Stump

1921-2015

Elizabeth Louise (Hack) Stump, 94, soared to her eternal reward August 17, 2015, after a brief illness. She was born February 23, 1921, in Shamokin, PA. After growing up there, she attended Penn State, receiving her degree in Elementary Education. While at Penn State, she met and later married J. Harry Stump, Jr., who was working toward his Ph.D. in chemistry. Louise was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, and has continued as a life member.

Harry and Louise moved to Pensacola in 1947, where they raised their family and lived for the remainder of their lives. During her middle years she worked as a Social Worker for the Florida Division of Family Services until her retirement. Also, they were active in the Krewe of Les Harlequins, affiliated with Pensacola Mardi Gras.

Over the decades their family was very active at First United Methodist Church. Louise has continued as a member and supporter of the church's ministries. For many years she was also active in P.E.O., a ladies' philanthropic organization.

One of her favorite hobbies was cross-stitch embroidery. Her family continues to be blessed by the many items she created.

Louise was predeceased by husband, J. Harry Stump, Jr.; brother, William Christian Hack; sister, Ethel Hack Whitenight and brother, Alan Hack, Jr.

She is survived by her sons, Douglas H. Stump (Jan) of Marietta, GA and Harry A. Stump (Linda) of Pensacola; a daughter, Anne Stump Sockwell (Sam) of Auburn, AL; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Plans for her Celebration of Life service will be announced in 30-60 days.

The family extends much appreciation to leadership and staff of Wesley Haven Villa. Louise was one of the first residents of that facility, and the staff's compassion and skill were always evident. We also appreciate the assistance and caring delivered by Regency Hospice during her final illness.

In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to The Living Trust, First United Methodist Church, 6 E. Wright St., Pensacola, FL 32502.

Our sympathy goes out to your family. I have wonderful memories of Mrs Stump. She always had a smile on her face. My last few attempts to visit her while in Pensacola, visiting my parents were unsuccessful. God bless her and your family. Love, Missy Wilhoit Craig and family

Anne and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mother was a beautiful lady. I know you will miss her terribly but know she rests in God's arms.

I had the good fortune of visiting Ms. Stump as a medical provider for a couple of years, last saw her around two years ago. What a kind, gracious, and positive lady she was, always talking about her family and friends. Very positive outlook and she surely did more for me than I could do for her during that time. It was an honor and I am sorry for the family at what I know is a tremendous loss. God be with you all.

Anne and family, so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. I remember some nice conversations with her from visiting several times at your house and from her attendance at PHS Chorus productions! May God help you through this sad time. Ed Wilde

God bless this beautiful lady, and give her family peace at her passing. I worked for Dr Stump at Reichhold, and he and his wife were an elegant couple.

Louise (as we all knew her in PEO), was a most beloved member; kind, gracious, and always smiling. She will always be remembered as a strong but gentle person, always willing to do her part. Mary Heavner
