Eugene Calhoun Obituary

Eugene Theron

Calhoun

1946 - 2016

Eugene T. Calhoun, 69, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, April 18, 2016. Mr. Calhoun was a lifelong resident of Pensacola. He loved his Lord, family, numerous friends, and Florida Gators. Eugene was born with Cerebral Palsy but he never let this discourage him. With his faith in the Lord and the support of his family Eugene enjoyed a life full of love and happiness. He lived his life to the fullest, always with a smile and a joke. He loved to laugh. Everyone that met Eugene quickly became his friend and he never met a stranger.

Mr. Calhoun is preceded in death by his parents John H and Annie Calhoun, a brother John H. Calhoun, Jr., and nephew Mark Brian Saxon.

He is survived by two brothers: William Calhoun, Sr. (Caroline Gilleece) of Altamonte Spring, Florida, Richard Calhoun (Joy) and three sisters: Jacki Saxon (Robert), Alice Faye White (Charlie) and Patricia Johnson (Jimmy) all of Pensacola, Florida, and one sister-law: Shirley (wife of John Jr.) from Carmel, Indiana.

Mr. Calhoun is also survived by 15 nieces and nephew, 27 great nieces and nephews and 8 great-great nieces and nephews and one more great-great niece on the way, and many, many friends.

The family would like to thank all of the staff, nurses, doctors and CNAs at Health Center of Pensacola for all their love and care for Eugene during his stay there over 12 ½ years.

Services will be held Friday, April 22, 2016 at the First Assembly of God Church. (Location: Bayou Blvd and 12th Avenue, Pensacola, Florida.) Visitation will be 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm.

Reverend David Scruggs, Sr. and Reverend Brian Calhoun will conduct the service.

Pallbearers will be the nephews of Mr. Calhoun. Honorary pallbearers will be the great and great-great nephews. Burial will be at the Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Benevolent Funds of Highland Baptist Church, 6240 Highway 95, Molino, FL, 32577 and the Pensacola First Assembly of God Church, 4301 Bayou Blvd, Pensacola, FL 32503.

Pensacola Memorial Gardens is in charge of the arrangements.

I had the honor of knowing Brother Calhoun through our nursing home ministry. Brother Calhoun was a gentle and gracious man. From the very first time we met, Brother Calhoun made me feel like family. Brother Calhoun always had a smile on his face and never complained but always cheered you up when you visited him. To Pastor Calhoun and all the family may you find comfort in knowing that Brother Calhoun has a brand new body just like the Lord whom he loved and that we will be united eternally in Heaven. Brother Calhoun was the kind of Christian that we should all strive to be like. God bless

To the Family of Eugene: Please accept our sincere sympathy and prayers for the lost of Eugene. My husband and I loved and enjoyed our visits with Eugene. He was a wonderful friend who always thought of others. He was an inspiration to us. He never complained about his health and always had that beautiful smile on his face. We are also Gator fans and enjoyed talking about the team's wins and loses. I will truly miss his phone calls of concerns and our visits with him at the center. I know he is celebrating with the Lord in Heaven walking, running and enjoying Family. I know we will meet again one day.

Sincerely,

Arnetta and Robert Holifield
