Joseph Marques Obituary
Pensacola - Joseph Francis Marques III passed away peacefully on April 5, 2020.
Joe was born March 29, 1942, the only child of Joseph F. Marques, Jr., and Elizabeth Angle Marques. He was educated in Catholic schools in Pensacola, and at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was employed as an educator at the secondary and college levels, and as a consultant on economic and political matters to various public policy organizations.
Joe was a man of broad interests and extensive intellectual achievement. He taught classical Greek and Latin, but was equally at home in discussions of mathematics, physics, philosophy, economics, politics, international affairs, and history. No conversation with him ever risked exposing the participants to boredom.
Joe is survived by cousins Robert Lawless of New York; John Michael Geist of Valkaria, Florida; Sue Angle Bowman of Fort Worth, Texas; JoAnn Marques Fogarty of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Ray Marques of Sylva, North Carolina; Jane Marques Cariker of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Joseph Angle of Hawthorne, Florida; and William Angle of Gainesville, Florida.
He will be interred in the family plot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Joe and I first met in 1958 at Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, Maryland, and we graduated from Prep in 1960. We continued our friendship over the years and attended our 50th anniversary reunion at Prep in 2010. Joe was a man of great intellect, broad education, and solid ethics. May he rest in peace.

We met Joe on the tennis courts 15 years ago. We became good friends & he spend most holiday dinners at our house until he became ill. We always had a good time & he lit up the party in many ways. We will surely miss him. He was a good person. Rest in peace, Joe.
