Robin Kobacker Obituary

Robin Kobacker, a resident of Freeport, Bahamas, passed away on October 15, 2010, in Pensacola at the age of 56. Robin was born in Columbus, OH, later relocating with her family to Detroit, MI. She graduated from Roper County Day School, the University of West Florida, and Southwestern School of Law in Los Angeles, CA. She practiced law in Pensacola from 1986 until her move to the Bahamas in 1996.
Before coming to Pensacola in 1977, Robin had the distinction of being the first female deputy sheriff of Broward County, FL, as well as that county's first female process server. She also worked on multiple political campaigns while in South Florida.
In addition to her extensive knowledge of politics and current events, art, culinary arts, and law, Robin had a great love of entertaining and an extraordinary gift for hospitality. Her generous spirit is legendary among her friends and family, and her happiest times were spent gathering eclectic groups together for fine food and lively conversation.
Robin and her family were the founders of Cinco Banderas, an impressive collection of local art now displayed in Artel Gallery in Pensacola, of which she was a co-founder. She remained actively involved with and supportive of the collection. While she was a resident of Pensacola, Robin was supportive of all the arts, including ballet, visual arts, and the symphony.
In Freeport, Robin was a partner in a scuba diving business, and continued to pursue entrepreneurial interests around the world.
Robin is preceded in death by her mother, Ann Kobacker Herman; her grandparents, Ida and Alfred Kobacker and Farah and Lewis Robinson.
She is survived by her father, James M. Kobacker; step-mother, Barbara Kobacker; sisters, Kimberly Kobacker and Candy Kobacker; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and special friend, J. Michael Plunkett, MD. Numerous friends in Pensacola, Freeport and around the globe also mourn her loss.
A celebration of Robin's life will be held on Saturday, November 13, 3 to 5 PM, at 4550 Bohemia Drive, Pensacola. Family and friends are welcome.
Memorial contributions may be made to Artel Gallery, 223 Palafox Place, Pensacola, FL 32502, designated for Cinco Banderas.

I learned of Robin's death with great sadness. I always felt a special connection to her as her father, Jim was one of my boyhood heros. His mentorship contributed to the person I am today. Robin and I were united in our love and respect for him. Robin and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Tommy Ratchford
