Roscoe Parker Goldsmith, of Augusta, GA, died Thursday, February, 23, 2012, at an assisted living residence in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born October 24, 1920 in Robinsonville, Alabama, son of Earl Roscoe Goldsmith and Bertha Findley Goldsmith.

Mr. Goldsmith grew up in Atmore, Alabama, where he graduated from high school in 1938. In 1942 he graduated from Howard College, now Samford University, in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was officer of the sophomore and senior classes, member and officer of Alpha Phi Omega, managing editor of the yearbook, and member of the glee club, band and YMCA.

His career as an executive accountant at U.S. Steel in Birmingham, Alabama and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was interrupted by World War II, in which he served in the U.S. Army. He remained an active reservist until the 1950s, when he resigned at the rank of captain.

In 1977 he retired from U.S. Steel and moved to Cantonment, Florida. He was a Civitan and Junior Achievement Advisor while in Birmingham. He taught Sunday School and served as a member and chairman of the Board of Deacons at Baptist churches in Birmingham, Pittsburgh and Pensacola, Florida. At the time of his death, Mr. Goldsmith was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta.

Mr. Goldsmith was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Steven Parker Goldsmith.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Deleeta Malone Goldsmith, of Augusta; daughters, Anita Bolin (Richard), of Cantonment, Florida; Lynne Hester (Dr. Roderick), of Atlanta, Georgia; and Leigh White (Glen), of Vicksburg, Mississippi; grandchildren, Kimberly Powell, of Atlanta; Dr. Darci Powell (Dr. Bob Faris), of Oakland, California; Parker and Austin White, of Vicksburg, Mississippi; a brother, Roy M. Goldsmith (Ruth), of Destin, Florida; and nephew, Dr. Ronald E. Goldsmith (Dr. Elizabeth) of Tallahassee, Florida.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012 in the Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Jacob Malone officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Augusta, Chapel Memorial Fund or the Alzheimer's Association.

The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. A private burial will take place at a later date.

Dear Aunt Dee and cousins Anita, Leigh, and Lynn, So sad to hear of Roscoe's passing (Uncle Rock to us). Ron fondly remembers family holidays in Birmingham. I remember visits to the Pittsburgh house, Bear Point, and Cantonment. A long and happy life, now full circle back to Atmore.
