Steve Hill Obituary

Steve Hill

1954 - 2014

A devoted husband and father, Steve Hill was married to Jeri Hill for 35 years. They recently relocated to the Gulf Shores of Alabama where Steve went home to be with Jesus, Sunday March 9th 2014.

Steve Hill was born in Ankara, Turkey in 1954 to a military family. Later they moved to Huntsville, Alabama. In his early teen years, his struggle with drug addiction began, resulting in several run-ins with the law.

In 1975, Steve's life took a dramatic turn after a near death experience due to a drug overdose. He had been suffering for three days with violent convulsions when a Lutheran vicar visited his home and offered to pray with him. As Steve called upon the name of Jesus, the convulsions ceased and he was healed, delivered, and gloriously made new.

Shortly after his miraculous conversion, his past caught up with him and he was arrested due to several unlawful activities prior to receiving Christ. Steve was facing serious felony charges and should have been incarcerated. However, God intervened and instead of prison, he was probated to the Teen Challenge drug and alcohol program.

Upon graduating, he was selected to attend David Wilkerson's Twin Oaks Bible Academy in Lindale, Texas, where he met his future wife, Jeri Larson. They were married in 1979. The young couple soon entered into full time ministry, and began working with Outreach Ministries of Alabama under the direction of Jim Summers.

From Alabama, they went on to serve as youth pastors in Panama City and Tallahassee, Florida. They soon began to sense a call to foreign missions, and doors opened for them to relocate to Argentina to plant churches.

In a span of seven of years, they planted seven churches in Argentina and held crusades throughout South America. Their ministry expanded to planting several churches and establishing Teen Challenge centers in Granada, Spain and Baranovichi, Belarus. Steve was preparing for a crusade in Belarus when his plans were divinely diverted.

On Father's Day 1995, he was invited to preach a service at Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, Florida. Revival ignited, sparking what soon became known around the world as the Brownsville Revival. This was the longest running church revival in American history to date, drawing a cumulative attendance of over four million people from more than 150 nations.

Steve preached four nights a week for five years during the revival, and hundreds of thousands came to Christ and received a fresh touch from God.

He began holding arena crusades throughout America and across the world. Burdened with the desire to reach the multitudes who couldn't come to the revival, in 2000 he relocated his ministry to Dallas, Texas, where international travel would be more easily facilitated.

While at a crusade in Vienna, Austria in 2002, the Lord spoke to him, instructing him that it was time to plant a church in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. In 2003, he founded Heartland World Ministries Church and a year later established Heartland School of Ministry. He served as senior pastor until 2012, when his battle with cancer rendered him unable to continue.

Despite the brutal affects of melanoma, he continued to minister by launching several Internet evangelism projects including ProdigalsOnly.com, a website that has helped to lead thousands of prodigals back home to Jesus. During this time Steve also wrote several books and numerous articles, in addition to launching a television broadcast called From the Frontlines.

Following the example set by his own spiritual fathers David Wilkerson and Leonard Ravenhill, Steve sought to invest himself into the future generation of young evangelists and ministers. He spent hours pouring into these upcoming leaders, training, discipling, and equipping them for the work of the ministry, often disregarding his own pain and physical limitations.

Steve Hill has been hailed as one of the greatest evangelists of this generation, known worldwide for his passion for Jesus and his selfless dedication to reach the lost. His message of revival and repentance has truly touched the hearts of millions.

Steve's heart was always on reaching the lost whether preaching to the multitudes or sharing Jesus with people one-on-one. Often times, he would step away from the crowds that came to his meetings to give a word of encouragement to a little child or to spend a few minutes praying with a drug addict, a prostitute or gang member. He preached with tears and regardless of the occasion, whether a wedding, graduation services, or funerals, was poised to give an altar call to the lost.

His greatest desire was to see Jesus one day and cast the crown of his rewards at the feet of his Lord. His family mourns his loss but is filled with joy knowing that Steve is now face to face with the One he loved so dearly. Finally he has heard those long awaited words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

Steve gave everything he had to whatever the Lord asked of him. Nothing was ever done half-heartedly but with complete dedication. He was meticulous always striving for excellence in every detail. He lived life with intense passion, giving his heart and soul to everything he did, which is why in 34 years of ministry, he accomplished the work of several lifetimes.

He is preceded by his father Frederick Whiting Hill and his mother Ann Eskelinen Hill. He is survived by his wife, Jeri Hill; son, Ryan Hill; daughter, Shelby (Aaron) Levy; and daughter, Kelsey Hill; sister, Marcia (Daniel) Pate; brother, George (Lynne) Hill; and sister, Susan (Fred) Piper.

Funeral service will be Friday, March 14, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at Brownsville Assembly of God Church.

FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME NORTH, 1000 Hwy 29S, Cantonment, FL is in charge of arrangements. You may express your condolences online at www.fcfhs.com

Bro Steve was a true man of God and he wouldn´t hold back a thing to reach sinners. We have so many stories of the times we sat under Bro Steve ministering. What I think of most is the passion and urgency to reach the backslidden or the lost. He lived and preached like it was life or death!!! To Jeri who is also a gem in n the faith. We love you and hold your family up in tater and the ministry as you continue this work. Blessings always

Thank you for your visit to the Leon County Jail in 1982 or 1983 and talking to the judge and giving me a second chance just the same way as you were given that second chance when facing 25 years in prison. I'll never forget you and your visits! I know where to find you, I'll see you there.

Dear Jill and family; my heart goes out to you; Steve will be missed he was one one the best evangelist and preacher in revival; i went a lot to the revival;but only the Lord knows when our time is up; in spite of young age; may God fill you that void; and empower you to continue the legacy taht your husband Steve left; he was the real Pastor; genuine heart; i will keep you in prayer for a long time and my prayer partners.
I hope you can do a Radio program like ADrian Rogers so the Legacy of Steve Hill will never ends.

Blessings,

Steve right now he is jumping and hugging all the people that got saved trough his ministry. And the Lord giving him millions of reward; well done son and faithful servant

Three or four years after the Pensacola Florida revival ended, I was given DVD copies of that revival.
I was so touched, everytime I watched them I cried because that revival was so annointed. I could feel it through those tapes.
Steve was the real deal, unlike so many others who preach today primarily for gain, Steve was a "true
Christian."
I think he should have the words: "Hurry, Hurry, Hurry", written on his tombstone, as he said these words so often becasue he realized the urgency of salvation!
He was a blessed saint of God and I shall miss seeing him, but know he is in a beautiful, peaceful and pain-free place now.

Steve Hill was an example to me and my husband. We loved him very much. He prayer for us and that blessing as never left us. I am glad to have worked him him on a few programs he taped. He truly had a love for people to see them saved. He loved Jesus. God bless the Hill family and continue to send forth the message of Jesus.

March 16, 2014

My prayers go out to you Jeri and Steve's children. I was fortunate enough to attend the Brownsville Revival two different times. Although I was a Christian, the message that Steve gave changed my life. As I watched his memorial last night online, it once again renewed me. I am thankful for this man and am blessed for the chance to hear him preach. May our Lord comfort his precious family as they continue through this life without their husband and father that loved them so much.

Your answer to that is found in the New Testament of Jesus Christ.

I remember my first conversation with Bro. Steve, he told me, "Just relax sister and receive from the Lord!" . . . He had a heart for the lost like none other. But his work was done and God called him home. We all wish for a different outcome in some way, but God has allowed every moment of it - we realize then that meeting Steve Hill had more meaning than recognized at that moment in time. No doubt we all will bear much fruit as a result! Go Rest High On That Mountain Dear Man of God ... on Mount Zion with our Heavenly King!

Sadened by the suffering this dynamic man of God must have experienced, but only our Father has a perfect plan for each of His children. I first heard Steve preach & minister at 1st Assembly of God in Panama City,in the 80's and was so touched and blessed by his zeal for the Lord to minister to lost souls. Since then I would see him on TV and saw his burden only to increase to reach the lost by telling his compelling testimony. I know he must have reached thousands maybe even millions through his world wide ministry. He is now with Jesus the place so many of us saved souls long to be. May God comfort, strengthen, and give everlasting peace to his loved ones, especially to Jeri, children, and parents. We all long to see this precious servant and will meet him at the feet of Jesus our King of King and Lord of Lords! I pray Steve's message will continue to go forth to reach many more lost souls on this earth. My sympathy to his family and also rejoice with you of knowing he is now in the presence of Jesus our soon coming King!

Are prayers are with his precious family. The Brownsville Revival totally turned my life in a whole new direction. God showed me that there was more to life than just going through the motions...He was real and alive.I went on to Bible school, met my husband , and having been serving the Lord on the mission field abroad and now serving in a local church....it amazing to think one act of obedience has such an impact in the lives of others....let us keep running after Jesus and finish our race with excellence....

I did not know Steve personally, but his ministry (mainly at the Brownsville Revival) has forever impacted me. I remember living in the Chicagoland area where I am from and attended a church that had been in revival for sometime. Many of the people who had been to Brownsville would bring videos of the services and make copies and pass them out to everyone who wanted one. We would meet at different peoples homes and watch them. At the end of these videos many times we found ourselves weeping and praying on our faces. The power of G-d was so strong in the room sometimes we couldn't even stand up. It was after watching many of these videos and reading many of Steve Hill's books that I felt the call to BRSM. There were a total of 6 of us from our church who eventually moved to Pensacola for BRSM or other schooling through the BAG revival. One year while back in Chicago my home church was one of the churches asked to help on the prayer teams at the Awake Chicago services. That was an amazing experience. Those are the memories I have of this man of G-d. Who will be missed but not forgotten. Shalom Steve, till we all see you again in His presence.

I will never forget this man of God - his compelling messages and his dynamic altar calls....hurry, hurry, run....who could say no??? Not me - I went running to that altar! Steve was a Holy man, a true man of God. Even through sickness he worked to get the "message" out to the lost. He made the sacrifice. He will forever be missed and remembered by thousands of people. God Bless his precious wife Jeri, and the rest of the family.

Oh my!! The incredible memories have flooded my mind thinking about one of the most sold out and on fire Christians that we've have ever met. We are forever grateful for the ministry of the Hill family that turned our lives upside down and we've never looked back. We thought we had an intimate relationship with Jesus and were fulfilling our destinies until we came to just ONE Brownsville Revival service which became hundreds of services after that then onto BRSM, onto the mission field and back. Still pressing into the things that are on God's heart. Thank you Steve & Geri Hill for your unselfish lives that transformed ours. Pressing into the high call. You'll be in our prayers forever. March 13, 2014

Without the obedience of your family I would not have mine. My hubby was saved around the time of Brownsville Revival in 1997 and was able to go there many times. It changed his life. I was saved the same year, but was attending a religious church that knew nothing about the power of God today. My husband introduced me to Brownsville in 2006 and I watched probably every archived service there was and some multiple times. I was starving for more of Jesus. *tears* I always said if I could pick a spiritual father to have right now out of all the world it would be Steve Hill. I remember standing in an auditorium in El Dorado, AR around 2009 and listening to Steve give an altar call. I remember the feeling of intense waves of the glory of God coming from him as he spoke. I could literally feel the waves as if I were standing in the ocean. When he later came up to me to pray for me I remember his bright blue eyes blood shot from the tears of compassion he was shedding for the people. I had never in my life met anyone with such a hunger and passion for Jesus and desire to live the will of God. Thank you Lord for giving us Steve Hill if even for a short time. Steve, I only saw you once in person but your life changed mine. Thank you and I'll see you when I come home. Much love and gratitude to Jeri & family. Thank you all for leading us without spiritual mothers and fathers in the direction of truth. We love you!

My family is so greatful for all the sacrifices the hill family and family at Brownsville made for Jesus to change lives. May the Lord comfort the family at this time and the future. Steve was such a blessing to this earth and to us. I didn't know him personally but our whole family loved him and appreciated all he did.
