Sue Means Obituary

PIEDMONT — Carol Sue (McCorkle) Means, 64, of Piedmont, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017.

Born in Durham, N.C., she was the daughter of Bill and Peggy McCorkle.

Sue graduated from Bob Jones University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and received a master's degree in elementary education from Clemson University. She taught elementary school for over 25 years mostly in Anderson and Greenville counties, but most recently first grade at Spearman Elementary.

Sue's passion was her family, but especially, her four grandchildren. She loved spending time with them at the zoo, the museum, Chick-Fil-A, the pool, and if she wasn't able to be with them, she loved to see them on Facetime. She also loved shopping, not only for herself, but for her family. The joy on her face when loved ones opened gifts was unmatched.

She is survived by her parents of Greenville; her brother, Jerry McCorkle (Genie), of Normal, Ill.; her husband, Stan; her son, Jared (Lyndsey) of Haymarket, Va.; her daughter, Megan Sneed (Thomas) of Greenville; and four grandchildren, Nora Kate, Hattie, Harper, and Jackson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 4 p.m. at Mt. Airy Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road.

I met Sue in 1980. I lived with Sue while I was attending Bob Jones University as a freshman. I left Greenville in 1981. Sue was a wonderful Christian friend who from the beginning of that journey had a forever place in my heart. I know she is in glory with Our Lord in Heaven. Her patience and love for all, especially her students, was abundant. My sincere condolences to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was a wonderful blessing in my life who will never be forgotten.

We truly are saddened by the news of Mrs. Means' passing. Her patience and kindness was so appreciated during Kamden's time in first grade. The Spearman Family will surly miss her gentle spirit and lasting love for her students.

Dear Stan & Family, I share in your pain with the earthly loss of Sue. Having known and worked with Stan, Sue must have been a wonderful lady. With my wife also as a 1st grade teacher, many hours were spent making ready for students to learn new things and enjoying their successes. Best regards and new Sue to enjoy the heavenly presents with God.
