Alice Clark Obituary

Alice O. Clark GREENVILLE - Alice Callis Orland Clark departed this life peacefully Feb. 12, 2008, in Britthaven Nursing Home in Ayden. Mrs. Clark was born April 12, 1920, in Hertford County, to Samuel Alexander and Cora Meadows Callis. After leaving Hertford County, she resided in Portsmouth, Jacksonville, N.C., and most recently in Vanceboro, N.C. She began working as a teacher's assistant when the program originally began and always worked at the elementary level in Onslow County and Craven County until her retirement. She was formerly a member of Craddock Baptist Church in Portsmouth and First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, N.C. She was a member of Vanceboro United Methodist Church until her death, where she served on the Administrative Board and several other church committees as well as being active in the women's ministries of the church. She was active in many community organizations such as Vanceboro Order of the Easter Star Chapter 231 serving as Worthy Matron on several occasions, was a chapter member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary No. 11119 and was a member of the Vanceboro Betterment Society. She enjoyed visiting sick and shut-in people in the community and sharing the love of Jesus with them. She was a Delegate to the Democratic National Conventional in 1976. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond John Orland in March of 1956; her second husband, John Lewis Clark in December of 1991; brother, Maynard Callis; and sisters, Lorraine Hayes and Frances Eure. She is survived by her son, Raymond John Orland Jr. and wife Gail of Suffolk and John Lewis Clark Jr. and wife Shaynne of Clayton, N.C.; daughters, Kay Orland Rogers of Kernersville, N.C., and Alice Clark Gray and husband Michael of Greenville; grandchildren, Christian Wade Orland of St. Augustine, Fla., Ashley Orland Rogers of Downey, Calif., Austin Scott Rogers of Kernersville, N.C., Zane Alexander Gray and Zoe Anne Gray of Greenville; brothers, Sam Callis of Portsmouth, Elton Callis of Cofield, N.C., Alvin Callis of Portsmouth and Cecil Callis of Harrellsville, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Michael and Alice Gray, 1570 Wimbledon Drive, No. 103, Greenville. Since children have always been such a large part of our mother's life, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Covenant United Methodist Church, HHOD Children's Ministry or Student (Youth) Ministry, 4000 Corey Road, Winterville, NC 28590. The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery in Colerain, N.C. The family would like to thank the Homeplace of New Bern, Greenfield Place in Greenville, Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Britthaven of Ayden and Community Home Care and Hospice for the love and care they gave to our mother.

Kay...(and family)
Please know that you and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers. Although I won't be there in "body", I will be with all of you in "thought". Your mom's reached her "destination" and we rejoice in that.
I know (from the obituary) that many people have fond memories of her life.
