Beverly Sterling Obituary

Beverly Frances Sterling, 56, was released from her earthly cancerous suffering into God's outstretched arms, where she was bequeathed and forever infused with eternal perfect love, perfect joy and perfect peace; and given this "not as the world gives". This momentous event occurred on Monday, May 31, 2021. She is survived by her two brothers, Daniel Sterling and Andrew Sterling, sister-in-law Andrea, niece and nephew Cameron and Zachary, brother-in-law Earl Linkous, long-time boyfriend Mickey Mihalcoe, her church family, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathleen and Thomas D. Sterling, her beloved grandparents, Myrtle and Thomas Sterling, and her faithful and wonderful dog, Bonehead. Beverly was a Norfolk native who graduated from Maury High School. She worked in various vocations including waitressing for 7 years, 6 nights a week on the overnight 11-7 shift at the Steak and Egg on Colley Avenue in the 1980's and early 1990's. She was affectionately known as the "Okie Dokie" girl, her happy response to requests from customers. She moved like lightning, literally doing every job in the diner single-handedly, with a blaring jukebox that kept the after-hours crowd hopping. After similar jobs, including at the Lido Inn, she commendably and valiantly returned to college to become a Physical Therapy Assistant, graduating with honors while working full-time. She was loved and respected by her many patients. She was a very smart, beautiful woman with a beautiful, giving, Godly spirit; a kind heart who loved to sing, ride horses, go white water rafting, sail and help others. She also loved her special dogs, Moses and Bentley, very much. Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of Virginia with a memorial service time to be determined soon. My deepest sympathies to Beverly's family and friends. She had a heart of gold and will be missed dearly. She was such a wonderful friend to anyone lucky enough to know her. Beverly taught me how to be a better person and she'll always have a special place in my heart.

Beverly was my friend. We often watched movies together and she would Always have a plate of food when I'd come over for a visit, coffee on the stove and a gentle smile.
She taught me how to make quilts and hamburgers on her gas grill outside.
What I'll miss most about Beverly her acceptance of any given situation in life and her love of her dogs. She loved them so.
In departure from this life into her Heavenly life, I can say that I'm a better person because of my friendship with Beverly. Connie Montague
