Bob Nelson Obituary

Bob Nelson

Virginia Beach - Bob Nelson, devoted husband and father, passed away at his home in Virginia Beach on February 12, 2015, from complications related to cancer. He was 67. Over his 30-year career as a theater professional, Bob acted and directed for virtually every arts venue in the Tidewater area, but his passion was Shakespeare and he worked on nearly 40 Shakespeare productions. Bob was known for his unassuming manner, disarming sense of humor, passion, intelligence and generosity. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and colleagues. He is survived by his wife Sue, his son Will, a brother, a sister and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 3 p.m. in the Wilson Center of Virginia Beach Friends School.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob last summer and working with him on a short film called "Special Delivery" playing his daughter. He was a joy to work with and an incredibly sweet man.

Loved Bob for many years, and I think his last project with the 48 hour film project summed it up best. His jet pack finally arrived.

Bob brought light to every circle. Warm, kind, inclusive, funny, and that laugh! - echoing down the valley...

Bob and I along with Sam Sollenberger where housemates back in the 70's. Bob was working as a programmer for the A.R.E. and really wanted to do something else with his life. I remember the day he came home and said he was going to get into acting and the theater. His inner being radiated joy and his smile and laughter where as always like a sunburst. What facial expressions he could make...fantastic fun to behold. I was impressed in his ability to change his life's direction and make it stick. We stayed in touch until he and Sue became parents at the same that I did. I had moved away and decades past...oh well. Bob...thanks for being like a brother and welcoming me into your abode. The times we spent together where a hoot. Say hi to Gib Towns. Sue...hope you are well. Would love to chat...301-277-3172 Love, Steve Woods

When I think of you Bob, I see your smile. It was a joy to share in A.R.E. with you. I know we will meet again, but thank you for all you shared here.

To Sue and Will, my deepest sympathy goes out to you, sending you lots of love.

When Bob spoke, everyone listened. His magnificent voice made you listen, and his smile made you glad you did. Farewell, dear friend, see you on the other side.

I met Bob in the 1970's and we shared a love of both the Edgar Cayce materiel and the acting profession. He married one of my friends from the A.R.E, Susie and we stayed in touch over the years to share our love of spirit and humor and creative arts. When my brother in law started making indie-films he was in a couple of those with me and we even used the Friends school as a location in the first film. We also did many a murder mystery together through Maverick productions in V.B. - I wish I had the opportunity to have shared the stage more in my life with him. He was a loving; fun and wise soul and a creative juggernaut. It was easy to love Bob and to feel loved back by him in return ... Never a dull moment in his company. I will see you again my friend !!
