Burton SCHIFF Obituary

SCHIFF, Burton "Bill"

Burton "Bill" Schiff, 89, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Bill was the youngest of three siblings, born in New York to Anna and Morris Schiff. His sisters Lilian and Ruth spoiled him because he was so bright and lovable. At 18 and the beginning of World War II he enlisted in the Army. Bill was in the 2nd wave that invaded Normandy. He also was among the first troops that entered Dachau prison camp, a memory that haunted him all his life. At the end of the war in Europe, he had 30 day furlough and visited his family in the Catskill Mountains where he met his bride to be three years later, Charlotte. But the war was not over for Bill. He was one of the infantry divisions, the 86th, to be sent to the Philippines; only the Atom Bomb saved him. Charlotte and Bill were married in 1949; Bill finished his college education at NYU, receiving a BS in Education, a degree that he used about 20 years later after he received two master degrees. Bill is survived by his wife, Charlotte Schiff; son Dr. Bradley Schiff, his wife Rhonda; three grandsons and three great-grandchildren; Adam and Emily Schiff and their children Tyler and Whitney; Justin and Michelle Schiff and their son Noah; and Steven Schiff. On the day he died he had only one request to see his son and grandchildren. They came to him only hours before he passed on. Bill loved to travel, party and tell good stories. He had a host of friends, his lunch group, his Monday night poker group and his friends of many years. He was well known for his sense of humor and was a great storyteller. He will be truly missed by all. Online condolences may be offered at www.starofdavidfunerals.com. Funeral Services will held held 1:00PM, Sunday, December 14, 2014 at IJ Morris at the Star of David Cemetery of the Palm Beaches, 9321 Memorial Park Road, West Palm Beach, FL 33412 (561) 627-2277.
