Chad Loren Broughton, "Chavez," 46, passed away on May 26, 2022, at his family home in Chesapeake, Virginia. He was born in Independence, Missouri, August 29, 1975, son of the late Craig T. Lyon Sr. and Cheryl A. Broughton. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Ann Broughton; stepsons, Jeffrey C. Jones Jr. and Joshua S. Jones; and beloved daughter Katy May Ann Broughton. He is also survived by his brothers, Craig T. Lyon Jr. (wife Angela) and Nicholas H. Lyon (wife Tonya); niece, Hailey Lyon; nephew, Chase Lyon; Aunt, Pamela Clevenger; several cousins, as well as many extended family members. He will also be remembered by many friends around the world, who he considered to be family. After moving to Virginia Beach, Chad attended Green Run High School and would go on to spend many years as a carpenter, roofer, and jack of all trades. He earned his bachelor's degree in rock n roll, his masters in good times, and his doctorate in kindness and love. While he sometimes took the road less traveled, he put one foot in front of the other and with helping hands, he faced adversity and overcame his early struggles, especially when he met the love of his life, Melissa, and brought their beautiful daughter, Katy May, into this world. He was a dedicated father and husband, and his goodness, smile, and laugh were contagious, his love always running deep and wide. In 2012, Chad and Melissa opened Pitbull Tobacco and More and grew it from a small seed into the flourishing business it is today, elevating the lives of so many people as employees and customers alike. Chad, Melissa, Katy May and family traveled the country and the world. They saw most of the United States, including Hawaii and an epic trip to Alaska with Melissa's parents, Steven and Charlotte. They spent their honeymoon traveling through Europe and took many cruises throughout the tropics. They also spent many weeks with family and friends in their favorite places in Mexico, like Isla Mujeres and Playa Del Carmen where they have a future second home being built. Chad and Melissa always willingly shared their sense of adventure, letting the good times roll with many friends and family members on their trips. They offered once in a lifetime experiences and all you had to do was show up. Chad was amazingly kind and generous. His cup was always half full because he would share with everyone he met. In recent years, he became passionate about glass blowing and created amazing works of art, which he gave to friends and family or sold at Pitbull. He also taught his beloved daughter Katy May the beginnings of the art of blowing glass. Chad was a champion flow rider, as well as an avid boater and fisherman. He also discovered his love for deep sea diving, and in only four and a half years he completed over 75 dives, earning his SSI master diver certification. He recently passed this love onto Katy May, who will keep that passion for her entire lifetime, alongside her brothers and sister-in-law, Jeffrey, Joshua, and Kelsey. Her father's light will always shine for her in the deep blue and through the love of his devoted family and immeasurable friends. It's only the end of the line in this world. We'll meet you at the next stop. We love you. A pre-celebration event will be held at Miss Kitty's Village Inn at 660 N. Witchduck Rd in Virginia Beach at 6pm on Saturday June 4th. The Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 pm Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Oman Funeral Home.
