Frederick Dean Obituary

Frederick James Dean III passed away peacefully in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at the age of 92. He is preceded in death by his parents, Margie Heyne Dean and Frederick James Dean Jr., and his sister Connie Dean Newsome.

Fred was born in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from Maury High School in 1948 and received his Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Richmond in 1956. After graduating from law school, Fred joined his father, and the two practiced law together for many years in downtown Norfolk.

An avid outdoorsman, Fred loved duck hunting and fishing. When he wasn't on his boat, the "Mistrial," he could be found playing golf at the Princess Anne Country Club, where he was a member. Fred always had a twinkle in his eye and loved to dance. He was known for his hospitality, and many a friend stopped by to cast a line with him.

Fred is survived by his devoted wife of over 30 years, Naomi Dell Dean, his only child Sarah Kimberly "Kim" Staley and her husband John Alfred Staley of Flower Mound, Texas, three grandchildren, four great-granddaughters, step-daughter Tracie René Burlage and nephew Albin Mailhes Jr. and family.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers who provided Fred with such tender loving care and attention.

Fred is at peace in the embrace of our Lord for eternity. A celebration of his life will take place in May. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad. H.D.
