Glenn Croshaw Obituary

Glenn Croshaw, a Virginia Beach Circuit Court Judge and former representative in the Virginia House of Delegates, died May 15, 2021, at age 70.

Born July 4, 1950, in Petersburg, Virginia, he grew up in Colonial Heights. After graduating from Colonial Heights High School, he attended East Carolina University, where he received his BS/BA Degree in 1972. He later attended the University of Virginia Law School where he earned a J.D. degree in law in 1975.

His career was vast and varied. He was a founding partner at the law firm Croshaw, Beale, Hauser and Lewis before starting his political career, representing the 81st district in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1986 to 1999. After exiting the political scene, he worked as an attorney/partner at Wilcox and Savage and as a senior affiliated consultant at Kemper Consulting before he was appointed to be a Judge of the Virginia Beach Circuit Court in 2011.

Glenn was active and involved in the local community as well as the Commonwealth of Virginia. He was a member of the Princess Anne Ruritan Club, the Virginia Beach Bar Association, and many other community and professional organizations too numerous to mention.

Glenn was especially proud of his service on the Virginia Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries from 1982-86 because he was a natural born conservationist, like his Dad, Ernest. He served as chair of that body from 1985 -1986.

During his tenure in the House of Delegates, he was a senior member of the budget-writing Appropriations Committee, the Privileges and Elections committee which sets the rules for voting and campaign finance and the General Laws Committee which deals with a wide range of commercial law and state regulations. He was also a senior member of the Commerce and Labor Committee, responsible for writing laws governing banks, insurers and utilities. While in the General Assembly, Glenn was known for his ability to get along with both "sides of the aisle". He was equally respected by both Republicans and Democrats. Sheriff Ken Stolle, a Republican who served in the Senate while Glenn was in the House said: "he always put his constituents ahead of his caucus. That, to me is the test of a true statesman."

Glenn, a direct descendant of a Jamestown settler, devoted his career to impacting the lives of everyone in the Commonwealth. He lived in Virginia Beach with his wife, Kendra, and was a member of Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church.

Left to cherish Glenn's memory are: his wife, Kendra; his cousin, Wayne Croshaw (Mary Ellen); his father-in-law, Charles Menefee; his brother-in-law, Tony Menefee (Anne); his niece, Lindy; and his nephew, Charlie. He is also survived by many, many dear friends from all walks of life: His Virginia Beach Circuit Court family, his Virginia Beach Sheriff's office family, his family at the Circuit Court Clerk's office; his life-long friends from the Virginia General Assembly, his golfing buddies, the members of the Homeville Hunt Club, his Colonial Heights family and many others.

Glenn often mentioned that he had no regrets in his life and considered himself so fortunate to have had the lifetime of blessings he has experienced. He often said "who would have thought that a kid from Colonial Heights could have the ride that I have had?"

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Ernest and Charlotte Croshaw; his uncles, Spencer and Walter Croshaw; and his life-long friend, Ronald Barry.

Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad or Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church. A celebration of life will be planned for a future date. Condolences may be offered to the family at:

I remember Glenn as a heck of a high school baseball player here in CH. He was two years ahead of me in school and I can vividly recall my first days at CHHS as the new kid who transferred in as a sophomore to a school where kids started kindergarten together and graduated from HS together. It was not easy at times, but, I was fortunate to play JV baseball and HS football, so that did help. An even bigger help was Glenn, who, even then reached out and offered support and friendship to the new kid. I unfortunately lost track of Glenn but again heard his name when I attended the funeral service for his best friend, Ronnie Berry. I am truly sorry to hear of Glenn's passing at such an early age. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I fondly remember Glenn from high school as a all around popular and good guy. He was a couple years ahead of me but I knew him from our fraternity and baseball associations. We were all so proud of all that he accomplished, and I remember him being a worthy brother to look up to. RIP Brother Crowshaw.
