J. Paul Hardin NORFOLK - J. Paul Hardin, 86, of the 1200 block of E. Ocean View Ave., passed away Aug. 2, 2008, in his home. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late James and Adele Hardin. He was the owner of Hardin Arms Apartments in Ocean View. He was a former manager of Colonial Food Stores and was owner of Shore Drive Grocery on 11th Bay Street. He then built The Shore Drive Market, also on 11th Bay Street, in 1954. He also owned and operated a steak house on 12th Bay Street at the same time. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 39 and was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Joan Fogle Hardin; his daughter, Paulette J. Hardin of Norfolk; his son, Michael Hardin of Smithfield; his stepson, Michael King of Edenton, N.C.; and his sister, Thelma Ladd of Norfolk. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kriss M. Ralston and husband David of Morgan City, La., Kristy Zafra and husband Mike of Virginia Beach and Ann Marie Rodriquez and husband Eddie of Norfolk; and three great-grandchildren, Julia Lauren Rodriquez of Norfolk, Nicholas and Lilyana Zafra of Virginia Beach. He was predeceased by his brother, Norman R. "Sammy" Hardin. A funeral will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with the Rev. Ernest L. Trueblood officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Parkinson Foundation.
