James McFarland Obituary

James E. McFarland Sr. PORTSMOUTH - James Edward "Ed" McFarland, 84, passed away Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, in his residence. He was a native of Roanoke, Va., and was the son of the late Samuel and Elsie McFarland. He was a member of Deep Creek United Methodist Church, Deep Creek Ruritan Club and Izaak Walton League. He is survived by his wife, Odell M. McFarland; two sons, James E. McFarland Jr. and fiancée Sharron of Minnesota and Donald E. McFarland of Draper, Va.; two sisters, Ommie McFarland Henderson and husband Charlie of Portsmouth and Margaret Bunch of South Norfolk; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in Deep Creek United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jonathan Bennett. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the church. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com
