Jerald Gaines Obituary
Chesapeake - Jerald Anthony Gaines, 65, departed this life September 5, 2017. He was born in Chesapeake, son of the late Jeremiah Gaines, Sr., and the late Virginia Paige Gaines. Among those he is survived by are his wife of 33 years, Jeannine, two daughters, Jessie, and Jadalyn, two sisters, Janice Forrest (Randy), and Jacqueline Pope (Nathaniel), two brothers, Jack Gaines Sr. (Mildred), and Jeremiah Gaines Jr. (Theresa), as well as a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jerald was employed with Circle of Friends LLC; he worked with the Target Corporation; was an independent businessman; and managed the K-9 Express for over 25 years.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. September 14, 2017 at J. T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1248 N. George Washington Hwy, Chesapeake. A Life Celebration Service will be held 11:00 a.m., September 18, 2017 at Grove Baptist Church, 5910 West Norfolk Road, Portsmouth. The family has entrusted J. T. Fisher Funeral Services to handle the final care arrangements. Condolences may be offered at www.jtfisherfuneralservices.com

Dear Family, my heart aches for your loss. I knew Jerry in high school but had not seen him in years. How thankful I am for being able to attend the service today and how blessed I feel for having known such a powerful and gentle man. My prayers are for your comfort. Was at WCU Saturday. Heard about Jerry's passing. Though I haven't seen him in many years have fond memories of him at Western. I roomed with David Rathborn and played defensive back. Jerry lived down the hall from us and had many good memories. What a great guy. Hope the family is doing OK. Will keep you in our prayers daily.

I just heard of Jerry's (as we all called him as WCU) passing. My deepest sympathies are extended to the entire family. From his first visit as a recruit at WCU to the last time I spoke with Jerry was always a special person to me. I will miss him greatly. I will keep his family in my prayers.
