Joan Vandersip Obituary

Joan D. Vandersip, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 23, 2022. She was born in Harlan, Kentucky, October 6, 1936, to the late Melissa and Elmer Huff. Joan married James Cecil Osborne in 1955 and they had two sons, James Cecil Osborne, Jr. and John Alan Osborne. While she spent many years traversing the United States as an Army wife, she loved to remind everyone that she was from Kentucky. She married Clifton Judson Vandersip in 1978 and they celebrated forty-four wonderful years together. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who adored spending time with her family. She was always known for having an open door and loved having time with those she cared for. She would never let go of a hug. She is survived by her devoted husband, Cliff Vandersip, sons, James Cecil Osborne, Jr. (Judith) from Clarksburg, MD, and John Alan Osborne (Robin) from Chesapeake, VA., step sons Jeffrey Vandersip (Dana) from San Diego, CA., and Christopher Vandersip (Amy) from Raleigh, NC., twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held from 11am to 1pm on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Oman Funeral Home on Cedar Rd. followed by the funeral service at 1:00 pm. The interment will follow at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. To leave condolences online, go to www.omanfh.com.
