Myrtle "Myrt" Beverly Hudson, of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home

from natural causes on March 28, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on January 8, 1937, in

Albemarle County, Virginia, Myrt was a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend whose

sweet spirit and loving personality touched the lives of many.

Myrt was the cherished wife of Rev. John C. Hudson, her devoted partner for 63

wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and

companionship. Myrt's affection for cats, her passion for flowers and vegetable

gardening, and her joy in making crafts for Christmas were well known among those

who loved her. She also found great pleasure in solving crossword puzzles, singing in

the church choir, traveling, and visiting with friends and family.

Myrt dedicated over 25 years of service as a secretary at the Child Evaluation Center

in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her commitment to her work and her kindness to

colleagues were admired by all who knew her. She was an active member of Lowes

Grove Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina, where her beautiful voice enriched

the choir and her faith guided her life.

A proud graduate of the high school class of 1955, Myrt broke new ground as the first

in her family to attend college, continuing her education at Bluefield College. Her

resilience and determination made her a success story, overcoming many challenges

throughout her life.

Myrt was preceded in death by her parents Bertha and Roosevelt Beverly, brothers

Albert, Charles, Arthur, and Richard Beverly, as well as her sisters Nellie Taylor,

Estelle Dean, and Laura Chaney. She leaves behind a loving family, including her

husband John; brother-in-law Thomas Malrie Hudson and his wife Song Yung

(Queenie); sister-in-law Debbie Hudson Baxter and her husband Butch; a special

niece, Amy Hudson Haney; nephew Tom Hudson, Jr. and his wife Zulma; great-nieces

Katherine and Alexandra Hudson; great-nephews Colin Haney and Parker Baxter

Rogers; and many other relatives and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Oman

Funeral Home. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, April 2,

2026, at 11:00 am, also at Oman Funeral Home.

Myrt's loving and thoughtful personality won her many friends throughout her life. Her

sweet spirit will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She

was a success story who overcame many difficulties in life, leaving a legacy of

kindness and resilience that will be forever in our hearts.
