John Newby Obituary

John Newby, of Washington DC, peacefully passed away on January 26, 2021. John was born and raised in Norforlk, VA, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School. He also graduated from his beloved Howard University with a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Social Work. He earned a PhD, in Social Work, from Catholic University. John served in the U.S. Army for twenty-seven years. He held research and leadership positions, in Social Work, at several army bases in the Washington, DC area. John earned the esteemed rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a proud member of Omega Psi Fraternity, Inc. and St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. John is survived by his two daughters Kim Wells (Ben) and Amy Collier (Wayne); five grandchildren Kelli Coleman, Dymond Wells, Jordan Wells, Austin Collier and Chelsea Collier; one brother George Newby; former wife and close friend Beulah Newby and Aunt Lillian Moore. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday February 6, 2021 at Metropolitan Funeral Service on Granby Street in Norfolk, VA. A viewing will be held at 10a.m. with the funeral beginning at 11a.m.
