Joshua Hastings Obituary
Joshua R. Hastings CHESAPEAKE - Joshua Ryan Hastings, 22, returned to heaven Feb. 28, 2008. He passed with his beloved brother, Jason William Hastings and Jason's beloved fiancee and close family friend, Theresa Turley. Born in Crown Point, Ind., Joshua graduated with honors from Deep Creek High School, Class of 2004. He played soccer for 12 years with the DC Community League. Joshua pursued a degree in theater from Tidewater Community College and was to graduate in May 2008. Joshua was in countless performances around the Hampton Roads area and employed at Best Buy as a wireless expert for four years. Joshua is survived by his parents, Douglas and Linda; brothers, Raif of Lorton, Va., Cody and Cory of Chesapeake; maternal grandmother, Jeanne Jennings along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and nephew. He is also survived by Amanda Ludwig the light of his life! Visitation will be today at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Faith Alive Ministries, 423 Shell Road, Chesapeake, to be followed by burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Deep Creek Ruritan Club, donations will be used to benefit Joshua's passion of soccer in the Deep Creek community. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.

Our prayers are with you and your family. My best memories of Josh are in that Goalie Slot on the Kixx so long ago. I remember how much he just wanted to be a part of something that was so fun. Such wonderful memories. We are so sorry for your loss. Please let Cory know we are praying for him too.

Hastings Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. I did not know Josh or Jason and I somewhat know Cody & Cory through my sister Tiffany. They all played soccer together and went to school together. Again, our thoughts & prayers are with you all. I pray this verse brings you some comfort as it has me as time as gone along since my grandfather's death. It is Psalm 116:15. To the Hastings Family, Words can not express our sorrow for the loss of your amazing sons. Although we did not have the pleasure of getting to know Jason and Joshua, our family did get to know Cody who was childhood friends with our daughter Ashley. We have always thought so highly of Cody. Joshua helped Ashley and I with a purchase at Best Buy within the last year. Just like Cody, he was so polite and helpful. You have raised awesome young men. We pray that you will find some comfort in knowing that Joshua and Jason are with our Lord and that some day you will reunite with your precious sons. This is such a tragic loss, I knew Josh from high school, he was such a sweet guy, never harmed anyone always wore a smile. I always made a point to look for him in Best Buy since I live right around the corner...I hope the family is holding together okay, I also usto live right down the street on Leeve Lane...I remember waiting at the bus stop w/ the boys... may god be with their family and friends. They will truly be missed.

I am so grieved by the lost of your precious boys and want you to know you are in my prayers. My son Robbie played soccer with Josh and my husband Bobby coached him. Dear Hastings Family, My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of great sorrow. I only briefly got to know Joshua through his performances with the community college, but he was a very real guy who truely loved what he did. He will be greatly missed in the theatre community.

I met Josh 10 yrs ago at a pizza parlor with the rest of his family. I remember what a nice,funny, and polite guy he was back then and know that he continued that over the past 10 yrs. The Hastings family is in my thoughts and prayers.

My husband and I smile when we think of Josh. He was such a character out on the soccer field, where our son Robert DeGonzaque played ball with him. Josh was actually the one who came up with a very irreverent nickname for Robert. We knew it was out of affection; it makes me laugh even now. God Bless You in this terrible loss. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.

But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.

Joshua was our next door neighbor for almost twenty years. He was Heather and Christopher's friend and playmate. We are keeping the visions of his friendliness, laughter, and playful spirit in our hearts. Joshua was a kind and giving person, always willing to help others.

Josh, was one of the best drama student I have ever seen. I got to know Josh when I worked security for the Deep Creek Drama Club. For years he was always doing 110% of what was required of him. He was one of the young kids you could always depend on no matter what. He spent most of his time making other people laugh and smile and for that we are greatful. He will be missed by many in the Chesapeake community.
