Kaitlyn Duffy Obituary
Chesapeake - Kaitlyn Elizabeth Duffy, 18, of Chesapeake, passed away suddenly, Friday, May 19, 2017.
Born in Salem, MA, she was the daughter of Scott and Tammy Duffy. Katie was a senior at Great Bridge High School, where she was on the Varsity Cheerleading Team and Swim Team, and a violinist in the orchestra. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, past-president her Freshmen and Sophomore Class, and the French Club. She was awarded the Presidential Award of Academic Excellence and earned the Girl Scouts of America Gold Award. In 2015 she was selected to travel to Europe with the Honors European History Class. She was a member of the Friends of Rachel's Club, a certified lifeguard, and a long-time member of the Great Bridge Swim and Racquet Club swim team. In the fall, Katie was accepted to attend Virginia Tech, where she earned the Harry Bramhall Gilbert Merit Scholarship Award. She was a member of St. Stephen, Martyr Roman Catholic Church.
Including her parents, Kaitlyn is survived by a brother, Ryan Scott Duffy; a maternal grandmother, Alexandra H. Roy; paternal grandparents, William and Constance Duffy; an uncle, Shawn Duffy and wife Gigi; aunts, Kim Burke and husband Christopher, and Becky Dell'Arciprete and husband John; cousins, Colin Duffy, Tristin Duffy, Adam Burke, Nicholas Burke, A.J. Dell'Arciprete and Avery Dell'Arciprete. Kaitlyn was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Victor H. Roy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2017 at St. Stephen Martyr, Roman Catholic Church. The interment will be private in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 5:30 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., at St. Stephen Martyr, Roman Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kaitlyn Elizabeth Duffy Memorial Scholarship Fund, C/O Great Bridge High School.

I have thought about you all over the last two years and I do hope your hearts are healing. It is one day at a time and sometimes one step at a time. Grieving is so hard and such a roller coaster of emotion. I promise it will get better and life will be good again. Your daughter would not want you to forever grieve but to live life that honors her beauty and to live life as she would have. Hold tight to Jesus and He will lift you up.

My deepest, heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your precious and beautiful daughter. This is a difficult and hard journey to walk so hold on to Jesus tightly. I too, have walked this journey in 1986 losing my 15 year old son in a horrific car crash. Live your lives to honor your daughter and hold on tightly to each other. I will keep your family in my prayers. I have asked God to comfort you as only He can and to give you strength and courage to face the difficult days ahead.
