Mildred Stephenson Obituary

Mildred B. Stephenson SUFFOLK - Mildred Barlow Stephenson, 92, died Feb. 17, 2009, in Twin Lakes Health Care, Burlington, N.C., after several years of failing health. She was born Jan. 12, 1917, in Wakefield, Va., to Walter O. Barlow and Martha Roxie Carroll Barlow, both deceased. She was raised in Franklin and moved to Suffolk following her marriage to the late Harvey W. Stephenson Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Suffolk for more than 70 years where she taught in the Primary Sunday School for 20 years. She loved missions and was active in the Missionary Circles of the church throughout her years in Suffolk. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Stephenson was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Joan F. Stephenson. Survivors include two sons, Harvey W. Stephenson Jr. and his wife Judith of Appomattox, Va., and the Rev. Robert W. "Bob" Stephenson of Elon, N.C.; grandson, Mark W. Stephenson of Burlington, N.C. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory in Suffolk Friday with a celebration of life service to follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Charles Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Poplar Springs Cemetery in Franklin. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory in Suffolk and Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory of Burlington, N.C., are serving the Stephenson family. You may sign the online register book at www.rwbakerfh.com.
