Nancy E. Hyatt VIRGINIA BEACH - Dr. Nancy E. Hyatt, 72, of the 600 block of Rosaer Lane, passed away Dec. 23, 2008, in her home. Born in Aurora, N.C., Feb. 20, 1936, she grew up in Norfolk and was educated in the Norfolk public school system, having attended Ocean View Elementary and Granby High School. She later attended Radford College, the Norfolk Division of William & Mary, Old Dominion University and The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg. Dr. Hyatt earned her Bachelor of Science degree, Master of Science degree and a certificate of advanced studies at Old Dominion University. She earned a doctorate degree at The College of William & Mary. Dr. Hyatt retired from the Virginia Beach City Public Schools after 24 years of serving as a teacher and public school administrator. She began her teaching career as a first grade teacher at Court House Elementary. She later taught at Fairfield Elementary and as a Chapter I coordinator at Newtown Road Elementary. She was an assistant principal at Linkhorn Park Elementary, Court House Elementary and Kempsville Elementary. She served as principal at Kempsville Elementary for six years. Dr. Hyatt was a true lifelong learner. She was an avid student and loved knowledge. She was dedicated to serving her community and had a true love of people. It was her belief that all children could and would achieve and succeed, given the right opportunity. She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother and loyal to her many friends and colleagues. She always credited her family and friends for her 17-year-long survival after lung cancer. Dr. Hyatt was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, The Honor Society of Kappa Delta Pi, a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and a life member of PTA. She was a member of Miles Memorial United Methodist Church and supported the Granby High School Alumni Group. Dr. Hyatt is survived by her husband of 53 years, William G. Hyatt Jr.; her son, William "Dusty" G. Hyatt III and wife Carla of Chesapeake; her daughter, Su Amsden and husband Neal of Long Beach, Calif.; and a brother, James W. Equils and wife Marcia of Laguna Hills, Calif. The family will receive friends in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions to the Dr. Nancy Hyatt Scholarship Fund at The College of William & Mary School of Education or the
