Nancy Ramsey Obituary

Nancy Ramsey VIRGINIA BEACH - Nancy Ramsey passed away peacefully March 26, 2008, in a local hospital after a long illness. She was born in County Clare, Ireland, in a village called Mullagh. She was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary Comber. Nancy immigrated to the United States in the 1950s and worked at the Rainbow Room, Rockefeller Center in New York City. She subsequently became an American citizen but in her heart she never left her native land of Ireland, which she called "home." Nancy met her husband of nearly 50 years in New York and began a fulfilling life as the wife of a United States Marine. They were stationed in various locations over the years and in particular enjoyed the time they spent in Rota, Spain. She truly never met a stranger and lived a very full life. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother and Grammy. She raised a family who she loved dearly and who will miss her greatly. Nancy was predeceased by her brother, Paddy Comber and is survived by her beloved husband James Ramsey; her son, Ed Ramsey and wife Connie Ramsey of Okinawa, Japan and her son, James and wife Colleen Ramsey of Chesapeake; and her daughter, Kathy Ramsey of Arlington, Va.; and her grandchildren, Meghan, Brian and Sean Ramsey. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Mai Sexton and her brother Francis Comber, both of Mullagh, Ireland; and her first cousins, Kitty Garvey of Carrigaholt, Ireland and Sister Collette Hanrahan of Ennis, Ireland; and her special nieces and nephews. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Nicholas Catholic Church at 2 p.m. today. Viewing will begin at 1 p.m., also at the church. A graveside service will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Irish American Society of Tidewater, P.O. Box 9614, Virginia Beach, VA 23450. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Dear Mr. Ramsey and family,
I just wanted to let you know I have been thinking of you all and send my prayers to all of you. It was such a pleasure having Mrs. Ramsey as a patient and getting to know her and all about her family.
Mr. Ramsey, you could not have been a more dedicated or loving husband than we all saw as you helped Mrs. Ramsey when she was in the hospital. I enjoyed spending time with the two of you and hearing of some of the life experiences you and she had.
With warmest thoughts and prayers, Pam

To Jimmy, Kathy, James and Ed and all the Ramsey family, We would just like to say that we are thinking of you at this sad time. We will remember Nancy as our glamourous American Grand Aunt who loved life and lived every day to the full. She had a wonderful gregariousness that made her easy and enjoyable company to be in . There was always fun whenever Nancy was around. She had the Irish "gift of the gab" and always had a funny story to tell. She was warm and friendly and was always welcoming to us, her Grand nieces whenever we called to visit her, on one of her many trips home to Mullagh. We will miss her cheery laugh and her ready smile. May she rest in peace and may God bless and comfort you at this time.
