Neila, Your smile radiated love, kindness, warmth, acceptance, fun and so much more. You made everyone feel like they were number one on your list of favorite people. You had the uncanny ability to bring out the best in people, to bring out their child-spirit. You encouraged us to LIVE HAPPY by your example. You really did not sweat the small stuff. You looked at the big picture and saw what was important - you saw that it was family and friends, a safe loving environment, support and not criticism. Laughter was your second language and you spoke it often. You rarely complained. You always saw the cup as half full. I can truly say that I have been blessed to have had you in my life. We spent holidays together, we were together for your marriage, the birth of Colby and Logan, visits to Luray, visits to the beach, road trips, talks on the phone---You were a gift to me, to all of us, a gift I/we will all cherish forever. Your goodness will live on forever in our hearts and minds.
When I think of you, Neila, I am flooded with such wonderful memories. I see your pictures and I can hear your voice, your laugh. I see you preparing yourself and your family for a fun day. You would always be saying "What can we do now - where can we go to do something fun?" We were always active when we were with you. Bless you for showing us how to live each day to the fullest and to not take anything for granted.
Danny, Colby and Logan - Our lives have been tightly woven these last three years. We were all able to spend such quality time together. Thank you for your love and support during the struggle that we all faced together. Neila is home now, free from sickness and pain. Our deepest love goes out to you, Danny, our wonderful son-in-law, and to Colby and Logan, our two beautiful, loving and dear grandchildren.
To our wonderful family and friends, Thank you. Your constant care, support and love buoyed us through this long journey. We love you all. Bless you for your tender words, your hugs, for a shoulder to cry on, for all your love and support.
To all of the dear friends and acquaintances of Neila, Danny, Colby and Logan - words cannot express the heartfelt emotion that I feel for all of you and your amazing love, support and friendship of the Byrds. Thank you and bless you. You are truly a special group.

To my Best Friend.Who was more like a sister me.God must have known how much I needed a friend like you.You were always there for me.I could tell you anything, ask anything and do anything for.So often we didn't even need to say words to understand what the other one was thinking. You always said we were two peas in a pod.You were truly my hero.I was always so envious how being a mother came so natural to you.You are the most couragious person I know. You would always be smiling and still manage to be so complimenting to me.Just to make my day.Even though I knew in my heart you were in pain.It just goes to show how truly unselfish you were.I am so thankful for you.Your friendship has helped me to grow,to be wiser more loving person.I thank God for giving me such an incredible friend who has been such a beutiful part of my life and my family.I pray that I can be the kind of friend to Danny,Colby,Logan and your family. That you have been to me.I will miss our talks.I miss you terribly....

Although I never "hung" out with Neila she was a great friend to my sister and always very nice to me. As I read all the entries here I see that not only was she nice she was very generous and I can honestly say that I am grateful to have known her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family now as they go through this time of sorrow.

To my dearest Neila,
How can I thank you for all the wonderful things you have done. You were there for Chris and I while we struggled for 8 yrs to have children. We are now blessed with a little baby girl and I'm glad that you were able to see a photo of her as we all anxiously awaited notice from the agency. You were there for me when Chris and I ran our first race at the Oceanfront and it was so cold but you came out anyway even though you weren't feeling well and you even dropped off a care pkg for us at our doorstep. How can I repay you for all of your generosity? You have always thought of everyone else. I have learned so much from you and I am a better person for knowing you. Thank you for being a great friend. You will live forever in our hearts.
To Danny, Colby & Logan, I can't thank you enough for sharing your wife/ mom with us. She is truly an angel and we will always be here for you if you need anything. I can see Neila's bright smile in both the kids and we are honored to be a part of your lives. We love you guys!
To The Carsons & the Trypucs: We are so thankful that you have shared and brought this wonderful person into the world. She has been an amazing inspiration to us all. I only hope to teach the same generosity to our little girl that you have taught Neila. Thank you for sharing her with us, we are truly blessed.

Neila was always our angel. She was the rock that held our family together. Her smile and caring ways brought happiness into our lives. Her courage and strength of character were an inspiration to all of us. She was the most caring giving person, always the first to show kindness and compassion to others.
Last week we had an opportunity to take Neila to the oceanfront on a bright sunny warm day. She always loved the beach. It renewed her spirits and in her usual way she said, “turn-up the radio and let’s sing some rock-n-roll”. We rolled along singing with the window down and the sea breeze blowing in our face. It was a special day that we will never forget.
She will always fill a special place in my heart. She was the sunshine in my life. Her legacy will live on in her good deeds, her family and friends, and the joy that she gave to others. She was a special gift that God gave to us. Our sadness is overwhelming, but I am comforted in knowing that Heaven has a new angel who will bring renewed happiness and joy for all eternity. I love you Neila.

Danny, Logan, and Colby-
You will never know how far Neila's love stretched, these things just can't be measured. But look at the signatures in the guestbook, the attendants that will come to the service and the cards you will receive and that will show you the beginnings of the lives she touched. A mother never leaves us and we know this because they promise us that they will always be there. We know it's true that she's with you.

I have been blessed to have been Neila's Aunt. I have read the entries made and I am so happy to know how many other people have been blessed to have had Neila in their lives. Even as a small child Neila had a special "thing" about her that you would be drawn to. She was the sun, moon and the stars. I loved her dearly. She was my niece, my sister and my friend. I love her dearly and will always remember the good times that we had. Distance might have kept us apart but she was always in my heart. We had a great relationship that I will always cherish. Danny and Colby and Logan made her life complete. She was an amazing wife and mother and friend. I will always see her in Colby and Logan.
It brings me great comfort to know that so many others were touched by "Our Angel".
I know how much she cherished her family and friends and I know that together we will always have Neila in our heart. Danny and Neila had such a loving bond. They were truly soul-mates. Colby and Logan are the gifts of the deep love they shared.
Neila we love you!!!

My family is so blessed to have been touched by Neila's positive, bubbly spirit. Her outgoing personality always made any event fun. Not many people can wear as many hats as she could. I will always remember her being our party planner, team mom, cheerleader, hard worker, gardner, shopping pro, class room mom, baker, wonderful sister and daughter, dependable friend and most of all incredibly devoted to her family. She has taught me to view the glass as half full. We are honored to be supportive of the Byrd family. We love you Danny, Colby and Logan! To the Trypucs and Carsons, you all are the meaning of a loving family and thank you for allowing us to be a part of Neila's journey!

I am so sorry to hear of Neila's passing, my prayers are with her children and family during this terrible time. Neila was a terrific person and a wonderful friend to have had. This poem has often given me comfort and I wanted to add it here.
Safely Home
I am home in Heaven, dear ones
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty in this everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over, Every restless tossing passed: I am now at peace forever, Safely home in Heaven at last. Did you wonder how I so calmly Trod the valley of shade?
Oh! But Jesus' love illumined every dark and fearful glade.
And he came himself to meet me in that way so hard to tread.
And with Jesus' arm to lean on, could have no doubt or dread.
Then you must not grieve so sorely, For I love you dearly still:
Try to look beyond earth's shadows, Pray to trust our Father's will.
There is work still waiting for you. So you must not idly stand:
Do it now, while life remaineth - You shall rest in Jesus' land when that work is all completed. He will gently call you home: Oh, the rapture of that meeting, Oh, the joy to see you come!

Neila was a selfless wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.
To Colby and Logan, your mother was awesome. We have so many fun memories and great stories to share with you as the two of you grow up. We will always be there for you.
Danny, we will never forget her! You have our love and support.
To the Trypuc and Carson families – our deepest sympathy. She will be greatly missed by all she touched in life.
Here is one of many stories –
A few years ago… Tanner was upset with me because I wouldn’t let him do something. I think he was 5 at the time. We were in the car and he was crying and said “I want a new mommy”. In my frustration I said fine but who in the world would take you? Without hesitation and with big tears in his eyes he said Neila, she’ll take me. I called her to tell her I was bringing Tanner over and we got to laughing … she said she would be waiting. Long story short… Tanner got over it in about 5 minutes as any 5 year old will do. We never made it over to Neila’s that day but Tanner always knew she was there for him.
Neila was always there for all of us.
She will be greatly missed. We loved her very much. In Tanner’s words “Neila will be in my heart forever”.
We love you all,
John, Aimee and Tanner James
