Phyllis Jones Obituary

Phyllis Hodges Jones VIRGINIA BEACH - Born April 4, 1917, in Hagerstown, Md., to William H. Hodges and Lilly F. Hodges, Phyllis Hodges Jones went to our Lord with dignity and grace Dec. 12, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis M. Jones. Surviving to love and cherish her memory are her children, Charla Duff, Ellis M. Jones Jr. and his wife Debbie Goode-Jones, Carolyn Poulos and her husband Ray Poulos; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Juanita Harrison. After a career spanning 25 years, she retired from the civil service system and became an avid golfer. Playing three times a week, she often spoke of the pleasure she derived from the wonderful friends she made while golfing, especially the ladies from the Tuesday outings. She will be remembered as someone who found the good in everyone and always found a positive way to approach the challenges in her life. A celebration of her life will be held in January 2010; the details of that gathering will be announced later. The family wishes that instead of flowers a donation be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Phyllis H. Jones.

I want to extend my most heartfelt condolences to the entire family for the loss of your mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend....I know she will always be missed. I am thankful for and will always cherish the memory of my last visit with Aunt Phyllis. It was a privilage to be an "outside" obeserver as she and (her sister) Juanita took their delightful trip down memory lane. She was gracious even then in insisting her sister was the best at everything they did together as girls! It was an honor to know her.
