Raymond Goodwin Obituary

Raymond I. Goodwin, Jr.

Suffolk - Raymond Irvin Goodwin, Jr., 82, of the 3700 block of Concord Drive, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017. A native of Tyner, NC, he was a retired supervisor for Newport News Shipbuilding. He was a member of Nansemond River Baptist Church and Hampton Roads Radio Control Club. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jessie D. Goodwin; a daughter, Carolyn E. Goodwin; a grandson, Gregory T. Thomas, Jr.; a sister, Anita Brewer; and a brother, Ronald C. Goodwin.

Survivors include his wife, Mary N. Wood-Goodwin; two daughters, Delores Sullivan and her husband Shawn of Hampton and Sandra Thomas of Shawnee, OK; a sister, Peggie Whitley of Chesapeake; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 12, in Nansemond River Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Turner. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
