Robert Bain Obituary

Robert (Bob) Tucker Bain, Jr., 76, of Chesapeake, VA went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, sadly as a result of Covid.

Born in Portsmouth, VA to the late Robert Tucker Bain Sr. and Mary Chappelle Bain, Bob graduated in 1966 from Virginia Tech with a bachelor's degree in Architecture. He served locally as a principal in the Virginia Beach firm, Talbot & Associates, and retired in August 2013, from Clark Nexsen Associates.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 30 years, Patsy Chaplin Bain, his daughter Elisabeth Prince (Arthur), son Michael Bain (Kathy), and daughter Catherine Pearman (David); stepdaughters Julie Gray (Neil) and Dawn Ward (Danny), and 11 grandchildren (Kelsey, Cody, Josh, Kaitie, Abby, Sydney, Alise, Jesse, Alex, Hayden and Grady), and two brothers, Albert (Mary) and George (Carrie).

Bob and Patsy loved cruising and playing golf together and they loved life in the retirement community of EaglePointe. Together they cherished family, friends, and travel, and worshipped together at Great Bridge Presbyterian Church where they were members for 11 years.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 21, at 2:00 PM at Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake VA. Due to Covid, there will be no reception. Friends are invited to share memories and sign the online guestbook at www.omanfh.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Hampton Roads Food Bank. My thoughts and prayers are with Patsy and the Bain family. Bob was a great friend. I had the pleasure of working with Bob for many years. First at Talbot & Associates as he gave me my first job in the field of architecture when no one else would. I will always cherish the memories. My wife and I had the pleasure of running into Bob and Patsy a year ago at a local restaurant and were invited to join them. Typical of Bob and Patsy. Always inviting and easy to talk with. We reminisced about old memories and caught up on years apart. I am great full to have had this time with Bob and Patsy. You will always be in my thoughts. Rest In Peace my friend.

Bob and I were both principals at the TAF Group . Bob's good humor , intellect and friendship were an important part of our relationship. He was a good architect . I was fortunate to have called him a friend . I wanted to express my condolences to his family .

Our deepest condolences to Patsy and the rest of the family. I enjoyed many years working with Bob at The TAF Group. Bob was an excellent architect, leader, and mentor. He was indeed the main reason I stayed with the firm as long as I did. A consummate professional, yet comfortable colleague, Bob was always the voice of wisdom and reason on matters of work and life. You could always get wide smile and encouraging word from Bob, and a lesson when you needed one. I feel truly blessed to have learned from him, and earned his friendship. He will be greatly missed.

It was such a joy to see Bob and Patsy each week at our church service. I will cherish those memories. I pray for his family, and especially sweet Patsy that you find peace in knowing that Bob is home with our Lord and Savior. My deepest condolences for your loss.
