Sharon DeMasters Obituary

Sharon S. DeMasters VIRGINIA BEACH - After a courageous battle with cancer, Sharon Snyder DeMasters left this world for His Kingdom Monday afternoon, Dec. 27, 2010. She was a Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend to many. Sharon's passions were her daughters, her grandchildren, and sharing her life with friends and family. While raising her young family she worked providing transportation services to Norfolk Academy. She then moved on to a job at Long and Foster where they benefited from her exceptional organizational skills. There she spent 20 years helping to manage the best Realtors in this area. Those who have had the pleasure of working with Sharon appreciated her dedication to a job well done and her ability to create a fun, motivating atmosphere. Sharon expected much out of life and it was these expectations that encouraged others to realize their own goals and even raise them higher. Sharon had many interests including music, gardening, and taking care of her husband, Gene. In recent years, following her husband's retirement, she devoted her spare-time to remodeling a second home that she and Gene purchased in West Virginia. The Lady Bug Landing became a gathering spot for Sharon's friends where she honed her skills in fly fishing, antique shopping and four wheeling on their ATV's. Sharon is survived by her husband of 49 years, Earl Eugene DeMasters; her daughters, Deborah Branch and her husband Larry, Dana Goheen and her husband Bill, and Nicole Bendily and her husband Jesse; her grandchildren, Cameron, Christopher, Jack, Mackenzie and Samantha Kate; her siblings, Shelly Terranova, Vicky Busch, Bobby Snyder, and Marty Snyder; and many nieces, nephews, and god-children, and her dearest friends, Leslie and Sharlet Scarbrow and Rick Gray. Her sons-in-law are especially appreciative for the many mentoring sessions she lovingly provided to them. Her family and friends will always treasure Sharon's calm demeanor and her common sense wisdom. There will be a memorial service Monday, Jan. 3, at 10 a.m. led by lifelong friend and pastor, the Rev. Jerry Holcomb, at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710, 919-684-4784. Gift forms can be obtained online.

As I read these messages they are such wonderful tributes to a wonderful lady. Aunt Sharon made everyone feel loved and included. Even though my brother and I live in Missouri when Aunt Sharon had quilts made from grandma's material she included us with beautiful quilts. We live our life so busy we sometimes forget about those that aren't in front of us but not Aunt Sharon. She always wanted me to feel loved by my family. It is a gift I will treasure and pass on (not only the quilt but her unconditional love).

I worked with Sharon many years at the Long & Foster Lynnhaven Real Estate Office. Sharon was like a second mom to me, listening to all my stories about my daughters and she giving me advice on "how to raise daughters" since she and Gene have 3 beautiful daughters of their own. I recently visited Sharon while she was in the hospital at VB General. I hadn't seen her since her retirement from the L&F Lynnhaven Office and even though her looks had changed her "spunky" attitude had not. I will always hold my memories of Sharon near and dear to my heart. ~ “God Doesn’t give you the people you Want, he gives you the people you Need”~

Geme amd family, Please add our prayers for healing and comfort. It is hard to imagine Sharon, young, happy and active, not with us. I will always think of her driving one of the Norfolk Academy buses heading down North Hampton Blvd towards the beach.

Sharon and I met at Maury High School what a blessed day for she and I became very good friends we shared times together with our children and though we didn't see each other much in the past years she remained so special to me and still enjoyed long telphone conversations about family and our cares. She always lifted my spirits as she did not do alot of worrying and seemed to calm mine. I'll surely miss her and my heart just aches at the thought of her leaving this world, but one thing in for sure I'll see her again in glory. My love to all of the family and friends
