Shirley Yetman Obituary

Shirley Ann Schreiner Yetman
Norfolk - Shirley S Yetman, 82, of Annandale, VA died at home of cardiac arrest on Memorial Day, May 27, 2013.
Shirley was born Sept 19, 1930 in Greensboro, NC to Olivia and Benjamin. She grew up in Norfolk, VA where she enjoyed dancing, horseback riding, sailing and spending time with her friends. In 1948, she graduated from Maury High School. Shirley attended the College of William and Mary and finished her Math degree in 1953 from Boston University. Upon graduation, Shirley returned to Norfolk and worked for the F. W. Dodge Corporation. She met William on a blind date in the summer of '53 and married him in '55. Together they lived in numerous locations on the east and west coast before settling in Annandale with their daughters Debbie and Ashley. For many years Shirley was a busy mother and Navy wife. Over the years she worked as a substitute teacher. Her last job was with Long & Foster as a Real Estate Agent. She was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Burke VA.
Shirley was admired and loved. She was described as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Always a lover of animals and the environment, Shirley enjoyed bird watching, bridge, needlepoint, cross-stitch, stained glass, quilting and sewing. In her later years she spent time with her friends, husband, daughters and grandsons. Shirley loved her family and we loved her. We will always remember her as the most beautiful, intelligent, loving, caring, southern lady who smiled frequently and laughed often.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 58 years William R. Yetman; her adoring daughters Deborah Yetman Larsen of Annandale and Ashley Yetman of Arnold, MD; her devoted grandsons, Drew and Matt Larsen and Ben and Will Laing. She was preceded in death by her parents Olivia and Benjamin Schreiner.
A funeral service will be held 3pm Friday July 19, 2013 in Memorial Chapel Ft. Myer, Arlington VA. Guests should arrive early for the security check at the Hatfield Gate. ID is required. The service will be followed by the burial at Arlington National Cemetery and a reception at Spates Community Club on Ft. Myer.
