Wayne Stone Obituary

Wayne M. Stone, Sr.

Portsmouth - Wayne M. Stone Sr., 68, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016.

He was the husband every mother picks for her daughter; the father every wife prays for her children; the dad that is the hero, mentor, and patriarch of the family; the grandfather that class papers and bragging rights are dedicated to; and a friend, confidant, wise man, who truly made you a better person for knowing him. "Pop" put God and family first and everything else fell into place.

He was born on January 5, 1948 in Portsmouth; and was preceded in death by parents, Benjamin F. and Lillian M. Stone and a brother, Benjamin F. "Stoney" Stone Jr. Wayne retired with pride from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where he began as a boilermaker apprentice and achieved Shop Superintendent after serving 35 dedicated years. He was a member of the Catholic Club and loved laughing with friends.

He is survived by the long-time love of his life his wife, Diane "Ralph"; his sons, Wayne Jr. "Matt" and his wife Robin and Christopher Scott and his wife Paige; and a daughter, Amber Dortch. Pop is also survived by lots of grandchildren that he cherished deeply, Tyler, Wayne III "Stinky", Trent, Breanna, Chrissy, Scotty Jr, Lexi, Sophie, Will, Taylor, Timmy, Evan and Meagan.

Wayne was blessed with the closest group of brothers and sisters that have surrounded each other with love his entire life. He is survived by four brothers, Bobby Jack Stone, Bruce Stone, Billy Stone and his wife Letty and Elwyn Sweet. He was also blessed with five crazy sisters, Barbara Stewart and her husband JC, Bonnie Hedgepeth, Beverly Woodard, Brenda Woodard and husband Johnny, Belinda Flemming and husband Carl.

Services and burial will be private at a later date.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Catholic Club Scholarship Foundation, 3407 Race Street Portsmouth, VA 23707.

Condolences may be made to the family online at www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com

Stone Family..
Praying that God will continue to strengthen you as you mourn the loss of your love one. May you find peace and comfort in the memories that you share.
In 1999, I had the pleasure of working for Wayne in NNSY Code 960.
I was also blessed to be working at the Heart Hospital during his stay. What a humble and courageous man of God who stood the test of times. I count it an honor that I could be some source of assistance and support to the family during my work shift..
You were such a warm, loving and supporting family. What a testimony for the love that each of you displayed daily in the hospital for Wayne.

Blessings to each of you...

Our family would like to extend our deepest condolences to your family. from what I can remember of Wayne the obituary describes even his formative years growing up. God Bless you all.
