PEORIA - Albert Frederick Bruns, 77, of Peoria passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Lutheran Hillside Village.
He was born on Sept. 10, 1932, in Peoria to Albert J.C. and Jesse Moll Bruns. He married Judith Harris on April 4, 1959.
He is survived by his children, Michele Bruns, Dr. Michael (Cheryl) Bruns, both of Peoria, Merilee (Michael) Wunder of Chillicothe, Julie Bruns of Highland, Ind., and Joseph Bruns of Peoria; his longtime companion, Kathy Ireland and her sons, Ryan and Sean Ireland; and six grandchildren, Lyndsey Nimrick, Ryan, Nicole and Allie Bruns, Jessica Wunder and Bailey Bruns, all of Peoria.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen Bruns.
Albert was a graduate of Spalding Institute and Bradley University. He was a lifetime member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Spalding Council 427, Third Degree.
He served in the United States Army.
He was an employee of Klaus Radio for 35 years, Forts Auto Mall for four years and Lake-view Museum for 10 years.
Albert enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He dearly loved his grandchildren and celebrated their achievements. He also enjoyed his four pet dachshunds.
Albert was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, where a funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, with the Rev. Thomas Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes before the Mass at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded. Private inurnment of ashes will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to Peoria Notre Dame High School.
