Alice Hakes Obituary

HENRY - Alice J. Hakes, 94, of Henry, formerly of Chillicothe, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Heartland Health Care in Henry.

She was born on May 24, 1917, in Corona, Calif., to the late Irvin and Pauline (Schylar) Pickford. She married George W. Hakes in Yuma, Ariz. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1995.

She is survived by her children, Gary Hakes of Bristol, Va., Nicci (David) Larson of Hopewell, Ill., and Mike (Lisa) Hakes of West Bend, Wis.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Verne Pickford; and one daughter-in-law, Nan Hakes.

Alice was a homemaker who took great pride in raising her family. She also had a degree as a horticulturist and worked at Peter's Floral in Chillicothe.

Alice kept beautiful gardens and enjoyed tending to her flowers.

She was a loving wife, mother and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, in Bark River, Mich. Burial will follow in the Bark River Cemetery.
