Clare Webb Obituary

PEORIA - Clare Blossom Webb of Pacific Palisades, Calif., formerly of Peoria, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, in the home she loved surrounded by her family.

Born Clare Mangas Blossom on April 24, 1945, she was the daughter of the late John D. Blossom and the late Amelia Jane Mangas Blossom Beste.

She attended Richwoods High School, graduated from Ferry Hall School in Lake Forest, Ill., and graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa.

Clare married her college sweetheart, James Cox Webb, and subsequently moved to southern California.

She was a devoted mother to Jennifer Levey (Brian), Susan Feist (Tony) and Cynthia Webb. She was an adored grandmother to Zoe, Dominic, Ella and Teresa Feist and to Maddie, CeCe and Jimmy Levey. She is also survived by her brother, John D. Blossom Jr.

Clare and Jim lived in Santa Monica and the Pacific Palisades for over 30 years, where they were longtime and active participants in their communities.

Clare was a passionate volunteer. Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Clare became an active member of the Junior League of Los Angeles. She was president of the Westside Guild of Children's Hospital Los Angeles and a member of Children's Chain of Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Clare was a longtime member of Las Madrinas of Children's Hospital Los Angeles, where she served as president as well as other board positions. In addition, Clare volunteered at all of her children's schools: Franklin Elementary School, St. Matthew's Parish School, Marlborough School and Marymount High School.

Clare's interests were wide-ranging. She was an avid reader and belonged to three book clubs, one of which is in Ephraim, Wis., where she and Jim had a longtime summer home.

Clare and Jim liked nothing better than spending time during the summer months in Sister Bay, Wis., with their family and friends.

When they had time, Clare and Jim enjoyed playing golf at the Los Angeles Country Club or sitting under their umbrella at the Beach Club in Santa Monica. They also belonged to the Ephraim Yacht Club in Wisconsin.

A recent highlight was an amazing trip to Greece and Turkey.

In addition to her volunteerism, Clare found great pleasure as a homemaker and hostess. Clare's passions were her family, friends, home and her garden.

Her sense of style was legendary, and Clare always entertained both graciously and impeccably. Clare's entertaining talent was well known and celebrated.

She will always be loved, admired and missed by her many friends but especially by her loving husband and family.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew's Parish Church in the Pacific Palisades.

Gifts in remembrance of Clare may be made to Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Mail Stop Number 4, 4650 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90027 or the charity of your choice.

Dear Jim,

Our hearts and prayers are with you, your family – and for Clare.

Ann Clark told us about this very unexpected outcome.

I can so easily picture you and Clare at The Beach Club on a sunny day in the early 1970s, in early July, early before noon on the clean, clear beach amongst the bright-colored beach furniture. And early in our fresh young lives. At that time, Clare and Laura were each pregnant with their second child.

When I think about Clare, I remember what a gracious person she was. Mild in manner, smart, always with a pleasant smile and with a bearing that reflected her quietly elegant social position.

And you, Jim, have always been so generous with your kindness and friendship.

Please know that we are thinking of you.
