PEKIN ~ Cynthia Kay "Cindy" Shivers, 70, of Pekin, passed away at 7:03 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 at the University of Chicago Hospital.
Born Oct. 29, 1950 in Springfield to Fred and Shirley Jean (Clemons) Eggers, she married Herbert Wayne "Herb" Shivers, II on Dec. 7, 1968 in Springfield. He survives.
Also surviving are her mother, Shirley Dillon of Pekin; two daughters, Laura (David) Toel and Jennifer (Ryan) Marlatt, both of Pekin; seven grandchildren, Zachary (Rachael) Toel of Spring Lake, Mich., Nicholas (Taylor) Toel, Kara Toel, Jack Marlatt, Dillon Marlatt, Luke Marlatt and Mackenzie Marlatt, all of Pekin; four great-grandchildren, Loudin Toel, Adilyn Toel, Evey Toel and Declan Toel; two stepsisters, Chris (Ellen) Dillon of Fayetteville, Ark. and Debbie (John) Trotter of Mount Vernon and one stepbrother, Jim (Barb) Dillon of Jacksonville.
She was preceded in death by her father; her stepfather, John Dillon and a stepsister, Mary Dillon.
A Pekin resident since 1978, Cindy was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed watching her grandkids and going to their activities. She loved camping, gardening and shopping too. Cindy was a talker.
Cindy retired from Tazewell Mason County Special Education Association in 2007, where she worked as a paraprofessional at Schramm School. She previously had worked for Twin Oaks.
Memorial services celebrating her life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor John Vaughn will officiate. A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 5:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Cremation has been accorded.
